We came to this new, beautiful, highly rated hotel for a visit on a Friday evening. After a long car trip, we were ready to relax in the pool/hot tub. When we entered the pool area there were 6 adults and about 10 kids in the pool. One of the men was throwing a football to the kids so that they would jump into the pool, screaming and splashing. The other adults completely ignored what the kids were doing. In the pool room, the noise of the kids screaming was so loud I could not even talk to my wife beside me in the hot tub without cupping my hands to her ear and yelling. From time to time I looked at the kids’ parents. But they were just looking at their phones and talking—apparently oblivious to what the kids were doing. After a half hour I was tired of being splashed and noise level so we left the pool area and sought out the night manager and asked her to enforce the printed rule on the pool room wall: unsupervised children under 14 prohibited. She looked chagrined, but said as long as the parents are “present” she couldn’t say anything to them. (Not sure if this is corporate policy op lack of fortitude on the night manager’s part) Fortunately we were exhausted by our trip and will probably sleep well even though I’m pretty mad right now.
