Bahia Calma Beach

María Martínez, director of the Hotel, proposed a 4-day getaway. We can never thank you enough!!! The facilities are very cozy, the pool is just outside the room and the beach is just a one-minute walk away. We took a buggy excursion, watched the sunset from La Pared drinking a passion fruit mojito grown there, had dinner at El Pellizco, a future Michelin star, and played paddle on some nearby courts. Can you ask for something more??? Yes, come back soon to continue enjoying Fuerteventura, an island of great charm, and the wise advice and recommendations of María Martínez, excellent host at the Bahía Calma Beach hotel. Great option for a long weekend or longer stays. A wide range of leisure and sports activities and the possibility of simply letting life pass by.

We went and stayed at Bahia Calma Beach from the end of August to beginning September 2023 for 7 nights. On arrival reception staff were friendly and helpful. We booked a double room though I think we ended up with a balcony as a pleasant surprise. On arrival the room was clean and tidy. We had self catering accommodation. There was a hob, microwave, kettle, standard utensils, fridge with small internal freezer section. There was a net-door which allowed a cool breeze to come through and block any flies etc. We had no flies and no cockroaches at all. Indeed elsewhere in Costa Calma we did not have any issues with flies or cockroaches etc The swimming pool was literally a 5 minute walk away. There was a large spa shop (groceries) which was open till 10:00 p.m. each day which was also a five minute walk away. It has everything you need. There is also a 2nd spa shop, 5 minutes walk away from reception the other way (though that one closes earlier/at different times). There were plenty of restaurants within 5 minutes' walk. Although a lot of the cuisine is based towards seafood and meat diets, there were vegetarian options and you won't have any issues if vegetarian. Though please note if you are vegetarian most of the packaging in shops does not include v for vegetarian or any other dietary needs, unlike in the UK. A 10 minute walk away is the beach which is absolutely stunning. It is a very long beach, yellow sand (unlike the black sand of beaches on other Canary Islands). Whenever we went to the beach there was hardly anyone there. There are free seats for you to relax on the beach which is a really nice touch and makes a change to be somewhere that doesn't charge you for simple services like this. There is a beach hut " Beach Bar Aureola" (not linked to the hotel) that also serves light lunches, beers etc during the day. There is also another grill/meal /restaurant/ bistro "Restaurante Costa Beach" just along from the beach hut (also not linked to hotel). This restaurant is very classy and literally seaside beach views, as you right in front of the sea Other restaurants we liked were:- "Restaurant Mamma Mia", "B-side Cafe" (which does a lovely vegetarian burger). Plenty of souvenir shops nearby. The weather was extremely hot every day we were there, so plenty of opportunities to get a tan and enjoy the pool. There was also a continuous breeze which made outdoor strolls relaxing and very pleasant despite the heat. All staff, for all of the venues, including the accommodation, were very friendly. The cleaners were also very friendly and did a good job. Costa Calma is a popular destination for different nationalities including a lot of people from Germany. There were also Dutch, French and English people and a lot of the menus had English translations and all the staff we encountered, including in the shops, spoke good English (which puts us English to shame with regards to our ability to speak different languages). I booked self catering BAHIA CALMA through love holidays.com. The price for x2 for 10 nights came to around £1500 with baggage allowance of 20kg per person. The hotel transfer (MTS) from the airport to the resort took around 3 hours due to many stop offs. In comparison the return journey from hotel to airport was much quicker ( around1 hour 30 mins. ) We have stayed in Costa Calma before ( all inclusive) but not at this accomadation. On arrival reception staff were helpful and quick in getting us a room key. Please note that there are a few different types of accomadation. STUDIO, BUNGALOWS and bigger apar**ents. In the photos on LOVEHOLUDAYS.com they show BUNGALOWS next to the swimming pool, as this is the image shown on the website . I was expecting a bungalow, but myself and husband got allocated a STUDIO instead. The studio was clean, well presented and compact. The only thing I would say is that we felt the location of our studio could be a security risk as the steps leading up to our studio led into a main road. We hired a safe at €20 for the ten days. Which was no bother. I did enquire regarding the difference in accomadation and price points but didn’t get a clear answer, which is understandable as the tour operators have to make profit somewhere. The breakdown of our studio came to around €75 per night on working it out. I asked to have a look at a bungalow ( number 4) not by the pool. Here are thWee differences. The bungalow 1 bed, pull out sofa ( sleeps 4) has a lot more space and has a separate kitchen area. Whereas in the studio the bed and kitchen along with a sofa is in the same space. This wasn’t so much an issue for us, BUT if you are travelling with kids would be. The second difference is the cooking facilities. The studio does have an oven a job and microwave. The studio dosnt have an ovan but does have the rest. Both had a fridge with a small freezer compar**ent. We also brought a polar icebox which cost €5 euros from the shop and brought ice daily food and drink to the beach. This was our best purchase as cans of pop were pennies ( 0.50 € each) and the ice in the shop cost €1.65 . Sandwiches could also be purchased. This kept everything cool on really hot days. The third difference and most important thing we missed being in a studio was the outside space attatched to the bungalow and the privacy of your space with own sun loungers and sun shaders. In the first floor studio although nice this didn’t offer the same holiday experience on the evening of sitting and eating a meal outside ect…. The bungalows were obviously by the pool. I did check the hotels website and a choice of bungalows ranged from € 91 per night ( during the same time early July 2024.) not sure if this included the pool area. We would invest in these next time. The pool opening times were 11.00-19.00, strict and although we only had an issue on two of the 10 days getting a bed at the pool, due to a very large party. We had a quiet seaview apar**ent that was close to the centre of town and restaurants. The apar**ent was well equipped, if you wanted to cook, with a full size oven and hob. However we chose to eat out during our 3 night stay. The wifi in the apar**ent was exceptionally good. Unfortunately there were very strong winds during our stay and although there was some sun we were unable to make use of the balcony and swimming pool facilities. The staff were very helpful and printed our boarding cards and Covid forms; housekeeping was 5 times per week. The apar**ent was well disinfected against Covid-19, however we would have liked the blankets to have also been in a disinfected bag. Costa Calma is a natural resort with surfing facilities..

I loved the place! Very close to the beach and to all kind of stores and restaurants. The standard studios usually don’t have a view towards the sea, but I was lucky enough to get one with some view. It was sunny, clean and very well structured, with everything that one needs to prepare food when necessary. The staff was very kind and helpful, I appreciated a lot!

Everything was great. Apar**ent was clean, close to the beach, shops, restaurants. Ladies at the reception was also very nice and helpful.

Stayed 5 nights in August in a clean & comfortable well equipped bungalow. Reception staff very helpful & friendly, sorting out a fan at no charge except €20 returnable deposit. Cleaning staff went above & beyond with the folded towel swans & a bottle of Bubbly for out Anniversary. The bungalow had an excellent bathroom with walk in shower. There was a safe in the bedroom which was 'Free' to use, what a nice change to the usual money grabbing hotels. Overall we had a lovely stay & if we came back to Costa Calma, this is the place we would choose to stay.

Excellent and highly recomended place. Facilities, staff and cleaniness are fantastic. Beaches are among the best of Fuerteventura and the pool has their own lifeguard for those with kids. The place is excotic and very well maintained. The apartements are highly welcoming and very nice standard. I would say it is the best place to stay in Calma Beach and proably the best place to stay in Fuerteventura if you prefer a excotic and quiet place for your vacation. Value for money is a keyword! We have been all over Fuerteventura and this is our 4. stay in Calma Beach and our favourite! Try it out, I can not see you being disappointed!
