On our arrival an elderly gentleman told us the hotel was closed, we told him we were checking in and he went to fetch a member of staff. An elderly lady appeared and seemed very stern and unwelcoming she gave us the key to our room and told us to return to reception in 30 minutes to check if my payment had been received. This was meant to have paid via my card details (which the hotel had since my booking back in October) ... Anyway we went to our room which was a very large family room with a bath & shower en suite. It was dated but clean. The tv didn't work, so on my 2nd attempt to find a member of staff to ask if the payment for our stay had been accepted I found a lady standing the opposite side of the bar eating who I didn't know was a member of staff or not!!! She didn't seem interested so I went back to the room and we decided to go out for food. On our return I still couldn't find any member of staff. I finally had a notification from my bank to say my payment of £108 for a 1 nights stay at the Abbey grange had been paid. We woke the next morning and decided to wash dress and check out of the hotel. We left the key in the drop box in reception, where again there was no staff and we headed home. So if you want to stay at the Abbey grange hotel you'll have to fend for yourself as unfortunately there is no staff around when you need one.

We stayed at the campsite. Mostly sloping, with flatter pitches around the edge. Beautiful scenery and a good base If you enjoy walking. The facilities are probably the worst I've experienced and in desperate need of an upgrade, a bit of love and attention would go a long way. The park area is very littered and there is lots of broken glass around the site.

This hotel is still in the 70s service was terrible shame really the place is a gold mine if they set their minds to to it I’d buy it and make loads breakfast was ok egg was solid toast arrived 10 minutes later. The room smelt musty and the back feed from the toilet was shocking had to keep door shut all night think again about this place I will

We absolutely love coming here, the food is excellent, the views are stunning and the staff are lovely. The facilities are great, everything you need. The location is superb for a base while visiting other places in north Wales. We will always come back here!

The hotel is very very scruffy and, judging by the 1980s avocado bathroom suite (which has a white toilet seat) hasn’t been renovated since then. If that was all, it wouldn’t be so bad, but it’s dirty and extremely untidy. The staff are rude. The barmaid, who was doubling up as the receptionist, deliberately ignored me, choosing to fix her gaze on a pint of Guinness that she was pulling. We pointed out that the TV in the room didn’t work and the manager came to our room, absolutely filthy and covered in food, and told us we shouldn’t expect to be able to watch multiple channels. When my husband said that we at least expected to be able to wait BBC1 we were told that ‘there’s not much on TV anyway’

I had read the reviews before booking and took on board what they had said, however I must say I was pleasantly surprised...yes the room could have done with a little fettle, peeling paint, grubby skirting boards BUT a no nonsense hotel with staff that were so friendly and could not do enough for you. I felt very at home. The location is amazing, and the meals were scrumptious, breakfast was plentiful. I would recommend staying here as long as you are aware of the negatives. I stayed in the four poster room which had beautiful views across the valley, I would definitely stay again without a doubt and will book next time I'm this way on. Of course I was blessed with sunshine which always helps!

This place could be beautiful, but it is very old and tired, lots of flies inside, and months of dust in the rooms. Very low water pressure. Why is the heating on 100degrees,then a large fan on, what a waste of money. Wonderful veiws, decent breakfast, clean white sheets. Yes I, would stay again as the walk to Llangollen is beautiful.

My daughter and I spent two wonderful days at the Abbey Grange Hotel. The food is amazing being raised on their own farm to very high welfare standards. The vegetables and salad are also home grown. The grounds are immaculately kept with amazing floral displays. The hotel is dog friendly which is important to us. Yes, the room was dated but very much benefited from being so. It was a pleasure to sleep between crisp, white linen sheets, an eiderdown and a bedcover. The view was amazing. The staff, we met Llinos,Beth and Steve the landlord were all very friendly. Steve makes the very best breakfasts in the world! We brought some beer home from their on-site brewery. I would give this hotel ten stars if I could.
