The site of an ancient ring fort, Liss Ard is a former estate where history abounds. At Liss Ard, there are beautiful trails and walking paths, a fine small spa and gym, birding (the great purple heron has been spotted) , boating, and the Irish Sky Garden. Few art experiences are more magical than “gardening the sky” at night at the Irish Sky Garden.

What an exceptional stay we have just had at Lisa Ard. Excellent staff, wonderful food, beautiful grounds with James Turrell’s Sky Garden right on the door step. The property itself is magical with incredible views and walks, wild swimming, orchards and wild flower meadows. It was very difficult to leave!

Rainy and dreary night I was passing Liss Ard and dropped in for tea. I sat in the lounge area waiting for someone to take my order,one would expect that service for a house hotel of it's calibre. Gave my order at the bar!. While I waited I noticed all the dust under lounge seats and behind any floor furnishings . My tea arrived and not even a biscuit! Liss Ard Estate lacks certain standards.

We go to Liss Ard as a family every year and it just keeps getting better. I absolutely love that moment when we pass through the gates and feel lake we have reached our own Narnia. I cannot recommend it highly enough. The staff are brilliant, attentive without being in your face and the Lake House in particular is an extraordinary indulgence.

We had a lovely stay at Liss Ard Estate. The grounds were amazing with beautiful walks all around it. The staff were amazing from start to finish. There is room for improvement for the over all price of the stay cost but on a whole we had a lovely stay.

This hotel has beautiful grounds, and the main house - where we stayed - is a beautiful building. However, the whole experience of staying there is so far from what you would expect at this price point it makes it impossible to recommend. The ambiance is not particularly welcoming as the place is sparsely furnished , the staff are friendly but generally very young and not overly attentive, but the main issue is the quality of the food, or the lack thereof. The meal in the restaurant was simply one of the worst meals I have ever had - an ill conceived menu of local ingredients with an Asian fusion twist. My wife and I spent 240 euro on 3 courses in stark surroundings with no discernible atmosphere, and honestly did not enjoy it at all. I also do not believe that having spent 50 euro on your main course you should be expected to pay a further 12 euro for half a dozen new potatoes as a side dish. Unfortunately breakfast was equally poor. We were really looking forward to our stay at Liss Ard and really wanted to like it but sadly I could never recommended it to anyone as it does not offer anything approaching the luxury experience you expect at this price point.

Sun and dappled shade, an enchanted house slumbering in its own woodland, in West Cork, a place in and out of time, we will not quickly forget the quiet charm of Liss Ard nor the warm and professional welcome we received. Highly recommended.
