I have just returned from a weekend stay at Axel. It was great.. lovely staff, stunning decor, really central location, amazing spa which I would highly recommend paying the extra for! We were torn between here and the Manion sister hotel, which was a lot more expensive and can’t imagine it could’ve been any better. Will definitely return, thank you!

We stayed here for two nights with our 2 children. We were given adjoining rooms which was perfect. There is a restaurant which offers a fairly limited menu, but if you’re visiting a city as a tourist, you want the room and amenities to be ok, as primarily you’re out exploring the city. We don’t have breakfast but saw it laid out and it looked quite good. There are 2 supermarkets close by for snacks, croissants, wine etc. I think a major selling point for this hotel is its close proximity to the central station, so about a 2 minute walk to the train and underground. We were in the annex building at the back, accessed through the courtyard which isn’t ideal with a buggy and luggage, but it’s not really a chore. Sarah on reception was very friendly and helpful with dinner suggestions and taxi reservation, which was all seamless for our early morning flight. She was also brilliant with our 2 children, so much so that our daughter wanted to invite her to our house, so thank you Sarah!

This is a revision of a one-star review I gave the hotel while staying there. It was written the second of what was going to be a three night stay. The following morning I went to the reception to ask if I could refund the last night seeing as I wanted to switch hotel. When going in dialogue with the reception about the amount of noise (again) in the second room I was given next to the elevator shaft, I was offered to switch to yet another room the same morning (a room that seemingly also had been available the day before, when I was given the room next to the elevator shaft). The last night was a really nice stay, but unfortunately it could not make up for the poor quality of the stay the to previous nights. Here goes: It is sad to give a poor rating, because the hotel is nice and the most of the staff are nice. But the stay was poor. I mailed with them before I booked regarding a bed with firm mattress, and was advised to book certain types of rooms to get spring mattress. When I finally got to bed late at night I understood I had gotten a foam mattress that was very plush. The following morning I asked to change. The first reply from the receptionist was that all the mattresses were the same in the whole hotel. After showing her the mail dialogue with another receptionist confirming that the also had firm mattresses, I was allowed to go see another room that actually had firmer a much firmer mattress. But it took several minutes, and the discussion was quite uncomfortable seeing as the receptionist seemed very little interested in helping with this matter. When I then adressed that the room with the firmer mattress room had poorer quality, and is located next to the elevator in the second building - an elevator that is really noisy, the talk with receptionist again became so uncomfortable. I then asked if we could swap mattresses, but was then told that they were different sizes. I find this strange seeing as it initially was firmly stated that all the mattresses in the hotel were the same, how do you then know the the ones you do not know of has a different size than the ones you know? Anyhow - the stay at the second room was good mattress-wise, but very little sleep friendly seeing as the elevator shaft is so to say next to the bed. It is an old wired and noisy elevator. But seeing as I was told off as heavily as I was, I do not see the use in taking this up with the reception. So, all in all a really nice hotel with regards to the rooms, breakfast, most of the staff and a good location. The spa is small, but works out well and the gym even has a treadmill that does not shows on the hotel webpage photos of the gym. But unfortunately also a place where you can meet the wrong staff and rooms - which turned out to be a poor combination.

There are a couple plus points to this hotel (and these, ultimately, are why I’ve given it 2 stars): 1. the staff are friendly; and 2. it’s very centrally located. However, I think it’s best to think of this place as an upmarket hostel rather than a hotel in the proper sense of the word. My room was located in the annex building, the entrance to which is rather tatty and frayed and adds to the hostel look and feel. My room was on the fourth floor and its location meant there was constant noise from the lift. The walls were thin so I could hear my neighbours coughing and talking. However, perhaps the worst thing was that when I went in for the first time there was hair in the bathroom (which wasn’t mine!), the ash tray was full and the sofa had crumbs on it and creases where the previous guest had clearly sat for a while. When I mentioned this to reception, the staff were good about it but I wasn’t offered another room or any compensation, just a “oh that is a real shame” attitude which I oddly sort of half-respected as they were so nice. I stayed over a weekend and on the Saturday night, the street corner on which the hotel is located was a fully functioning ****************** and there were a couple of ************, yelling from their cars. I understand the hotel can’t help that but probably worth knowing if you’re thinking of staying there with your family.

Great location, excellent staff, and very comfortable rooms. The vibe at this hotel is very relaxed, especially the rooms. I was upgraded to a double room and it was plenty of space. The beds were very comfortable and I had some very good sleeps and naps. The centre courtyard was a nice treat to enjoy the outdoors, especially the covered greenroom for the winter. I would definitely stay here again!

I stayed here many years ago and had fond memories of a cozy boutique hotel. I was eager to return. Unfortunately since that time they have expanded and it’s now lost some of the intimacy. Breakfast is chaotic and crowded, esp on the weekends. Also, if you’re in the old building you have to walk outside to get to your room and to breakfast, and it rained a lot, which was annoying. On the plus side the staff were all friendly, the toiletries are nice, and it’s very close to a metro station and a Tivoli Gardens. However given I feel it’s lost some of its charm, I’ll likely choose a smaller more intimate hotel next time I come to Copenhagen.

Had an excellent stay, great family suite, tasty breakfast, really helpful and friendly staff. Great location for Tivoli & meat packing district for a wide choice of excellent restaurants. Would highly recommend.
