YHA Eskdale

Hello. Here is my honest review of YHA Eskdale. It's excellent, could not fault anything. It is a little haven of paradise set amongst a valley of awesomeness. I met 2 members of staff and found them helpful and friendly. I could not remember their names sorry. The hostel was spotless, all the common areas, kitchen, bathrooms and bedrooms were all fabulous. The main lounge room is comfortable and there were 2 other areas if you wanted some peace and quiet. If you want walks and Cycle rides from the door you are spolit for choice here. If hiking's your game then you can start out over Scafell and Scafell Pike, which i did and was a great day out. Over Harter fell and through the forest at the back was also a fabulous walk, the forest was deserted and very beautiful. I cannot comment on the food served at the hostel as I brought my own. I love hostel life. Everyone is friendly and it's how humanity should be. Every conversation starts with 'what did you do yesterday, what are you doing today? people are all too keen to share conversation with like minded individuals. This hostel shows the very best that the YHA is capable of. I will be back.

Friendly staff, decent food, clean communal kitchen, showers and toilets, good beds and rooms—overall, good, but take a plug socket board. The Wi-Fi was extremely ropey, and there was 0 connection in the dorms. I also really wish there were mugs 😆 instead of tiny coffee cups to make your own drinks. It is perfectly located for cyclists wanting to do Hardknott and more crazy climbs.

Eskdale YHA was a truly lovely part of our short excursion to explore the wonders of the lakes. Upon arrival, staff and guests crafted a most welcoming atmosphere in which we were happily immersed. I must extend particular recognition to Mike and his unmatched hospitality. A knowledgeable and friendly chap, he is an asset to the team. From providing plasters, hand-drawn maps and much needed jigsaw encouragement, he was nothing short of heroic. Facilities were absolutely sufficient and clean. Kitchen was well equipped, enabling us to cook up a storm and replenish ourselves post hike. Comfortable beds provided us more than sufficient slumber to fuel a day of scaling peaks and admiring the exquisite beauty of the lakes!

Excellent location where the YHA is located. There are too many walks and hikes nearby. Staff is very friendly and helpful. There’s no network in YHA and the WiFi connection was not very great but there’s a hotel, just 5 mins walk from YHA where we can get free and strong wifi connection. Overall the location is awesome.

This was a delightful overnight stay. The manager and his team were friendly, welcoming and very helpful. Breakfast was delivered individually and cooked to order and was of an excellent standard. We hired a eight-bed dorm for the two of us and it was comfortable and clean. Fortunately, the hostel was largely unoccupied and so the atmosphere was congenial without feeling the need to talk to everyone. A crackling log fire was burning away and it was heaven. The beer was much appreciated, too. This is hostelling at its best: well done YHA.

Booked as a very last minute trip with a last minute day off and the sight og good weather. Turned up on Sunday evening, was quickly booked in and everything sorted. Great self-catering kitchen and goodn facillities for doing your own cooking. Staff super-helpful and good atmosphere with fellow walkers discussing routes! Great nice sleep, and got a superb day on the hills the following day. Been a while since I'd hostelled, and Eskdale was great traditional experience with bargain prices, and good company reafy for a day on the hills.
