Black shop, ripping off customers. It's a farm, and it smells like cow dung. In the deep, deep, deep, deep village, there is no front desk at night, the houses are crumbling, and the facilities are so poor that it is impossible to take a shower. The bed was so small that the quilt kept falling off. The room is worse than the elders’ home in the countryside when I was a child! It can only be seen by taking pictures. Breakfast ingredients are okay. The rental price was mentioned three times, which is ridiculous. You can go for three to five hundred, but over a thousand is a bit of a lie.

Our stay at Bank Ground Farm was an absolute dream!! We loved the little cottage and the views and access to Coniston Water, and the friendly fluffy sheep. It seemed like a fairytale the whole time we were there. They also offered breakfast each morning which helped set us up for a lovely day enjoying the Lake District. There’s so much history in this beautiful farmhouse as it is the place where Arthur Ransome wrote Swallows and Amazons! We hope to return here someday soon :)

We only visited here for lunch. Views were the main draw. Sandwiches were expensive and poor value, bread did not taste fresh and salad tasted unwashed. Coffees and hot chocolates were tasteless. A real disappointment for such a pretty view.

I absolutely loved my stay at Bank Ground Farm. It's in a beautiful setting overlooking Conniston Lake with the majestic fells in the background. The atmosphere was very peaceful, relaxing and welcoming. I arrived late and my room door had been left open with the light on which felt very homely. Jonathon and the staff were very warm, kind and offered great local advice. I enjoyed good walks from the door, relaxing with books and enjoying the delicious hearty food. The food was very good, the scrambled eggs were amazing and also the cakes and home cooked delights. It's also much quieter than other parts of the lakes. A true gem of a place! Thank you!

Fantastic few days break. Great location. Was able to walk The Old Man of Conison from here. Jonathon was an excellent host. Jonathon organised kayaking and wetsuits for us, making our time on the lake special. Food was amazing, cooked from fresh and homemade cakes were divine! The staff were all friendly. We were certainly made to feel welcome, and felt so relaxed during our stay. We stayed in the log cabin, views were outstanding, beds were very comfortable, we all slept great. I will miss waking up to that view. This cabin had everything what we needed and providing us with fresh coffee, milk was a bonus. I would definately recommend Bank Ground Farm.

My 2nd visit in 6 months and what a fantastic couple of days I had. Greeted by Jonathan who somehow manages to find time to offer a personal service whilst running a very busy, well organised farm as well. Had a lovely double en suite room and the breakfasts and evening platters were amazing. I plan to revisit in September, this time taking my grown up children. Huge thank you also to the excellent staff - Hester, Darren, Rob & Catherine. You helped to make me feel home from home. Many thanks, Glen.

On the bank of Lake Coniston this was perfect in every way. Our party of 12 stayed in the Barn, which was spacious and luxurious with fantastic views from every window. We were there at lambing time which was a delightful bonus. We found a range of walks to do for every ability, including The Old Man of Coniston for the younger, fitter members of the group. Others took a half hour stroll into Coniston village. We brought easy meals to cater for ourselves, but could have chosen to have a catered meal provided on the farm. Jonathan, the farmer/host, was lovely. He had helped me in every way to keep the birthday surprise a secret. We didn't see much of him during our stay as he was so busy on the farm, but he took time to welcome us soon after we arrived. Some of our group are planning to go back to Bank Ground Farm to stay in a smaller cottage. It was that good!

We rented several of the self-catering cottages for a family of 24 (aged between 2 - 90 years old). The cottages were all next to each other and the larger barn was big enough to allow us all to eat and socialise together. The cottage kitchens were fully equipped which made cooking very easy. The rooms were beautifully made up with several sleeping options for singles, couples and families and included extra duvets, pillows and blankets. The views from every angle of the cottages were spectacular and the walk to Conisten Lake took only a minute. It was wonderful to be able to look around the farm with the hosts themselves and some cuddles with newly born lambs brought a smile to everyone's faces. This is a truly magical place so whether you want to paddleboard, hike or just read a book, come rain or shine, you will come away feeling spellbound.

The current owners have kept the Swallows and Amazons themed bed and breakfast in authentic condition. The food and coffee was top notch and quite good value. Staff were attentive and friendly. Just watch out for the low beams. A worthwhile visit, especially who has read the books.
