First time I’ve posted a review. It doesn’t feel quite right to complain publicly, but I feel very uncomfortable with how this hotel markets themselves and what they actually provide. The hotel markets itself as a wellness retreat, but there was no structured wellness program during my stay. Only one paid yoga or Pilates class per day (during breakfast), and very minimal other paid offerings like meditation or guided movement. Walking and biking were available. The hotel later admitted classes are based on guest interest, which wasn’t made clear before booking nor was it made clear that you would pay extra for classes. At a standard hotel that does not market themselves as a wellness destination, yoga is often free and included as well as access to a gym. The food at breakfast was not fresh and healthy. There were heavy cakes, Nutella, etc. We were also very surprised upon entry to our hotel room to see that paint was chipping, and it did not feel polished. I left feeling misled. This is not a true wellness destination although it is a very beautiful hotel.

We really liked this hotel! We were on a Backroads trip and were so grateful to come to this oasis after a long day of biking. The rooms are very spacious and thoughtfully designed. The pool and spa area are gorgeous. The gardens are lovely. Breakfast buffet and dinners were excellent. The town shopping is a stone's throw from the hotel (go out the back gate near the spa). The reason I am giving this hotel 4 stars is that the staff is all around surly as stated in other reviews. I don’t know if it’s due to poor management, low pay, long hours, etc, but the staff is universally grumpy and not welcoming. The only pleasant and helpful staffer is Rodrigo who worked the pool solo on a very busy afternoon and did it with a smile on his face.

We had a beautiful time at Quinta da Comporta. We stayed in one of their 3 bedroom 3 1/2 bath with private pool houses- it was magnificent. The hotel setting is beautiful, it sits on a rice field. We used their bikes ( beach is an easy ride) we used their beautiful spa (massage and body scrub were great. Pool at our house and in resort were heated! Breakfast was included and very good. Dinner was very good but menu is limited, however there are super restaurants on the beach and in town, nearby. ( sublime beach club and Cafe Comporta were awesome) .

Have stayed here several times and the restaurant is nice, the food is good, the rooms are comfortable, the beds are excellent, and it’s a great location. What is bad about this hotel is the staff and lack of friendliness, twice I had to ask staff members if they were OK because they look so miserable and unhappy. In my experience with hotels with unhappy staff, it normally stems from the management, and that is why it is not an enjoyable place to stay. This is consistent throughout the hotel, restaurant, spa, check-in, and concierge. People are unfriendly, do not greet you, and you can just tell they are unhappy in their jobs and that naturally reflects in the customers experience. This is not a one off comment, as I said I stayed here several times and it’s consistently like this. Last week we stayed in Sublime hotel, which is far superior in terms of experience. the staff there seem very happy in their jobs and give a wonderful welcoming wherever you with friendliness and welcoming. I think this is a great hotel, it’s such a shame is being ruined by the management staff being so unhappy.

Please PLEASE save your money. this hotel is a complete scam and not up to 5-star standards. i have never in my life left a review before but feel the need to warn people that this is insanely overpriced and not what it claims to be. we don’t go on these kinds of trips very often, saved to come here, and were totally let down :(. it claims to be a “wellness” boutique hotel but you don’t receive ANY wellness benefits and it’s genuinely a daycare. there were more guests under 10 years old than over… not an exaggeration they completely cater this place to children. the spa (even though online it says explicitly that it is for guests 16+) is practically a public pool because children are in there jumping and playing. you will be waiting for a turn in the sauna behind a 6 year old playing in it (no seriously). they literally have a foosball table by the restaurant bathrooms to keep children entertained, the outdoor “famous infinity pool” literally has a children’s end (which cmon it’s not regulated that way)… they don’t say this but it is entirely for wealthy families and they don’t care about accommodating anybody else we let them know we were really surprised about the children being allowed in the spa and they essentially said that it’s a “family hotel” and the kids need somewhere to be when the outdoor pool is cold. let me know where it says that on their website despite marketing themselves as a boutique WELLNESS hotel. you also receive 0 benefits - morning yoga is 20 euros pp (i’ve NEVER seen that even at lesser starred hotels let alone 5 star) and since the spa is a water park, where is the wellness? in the 200 euro massage i need to pay for in addition? everything is paid for, the bikes, the classes, (don’t even get me started on the food, but other reviews have covered this lol) our room was also completely falling apart, i’ll attach some photos below but both our patio chairs were broken with screws poking out, lamps detaching from walls, etc. the staff here are really wonderful and none of this is their fault at all. our service from the receptionists, hospitality workers, restaurant workers, etc. was all great - it’s the managers and owners. they didn’t listen to our concerns and are fraudulently marketing this place. i anticipate that its vision was to compete with sublime and be a natural wellness hotel, but they realized they make way more money being an elite family playpen. make this explicit or adequately compensate unhappy guests. when we let them know we were having trouble with our stay, she didn’t offer us anything besides the *opportunity* to leave early and not be charged for the last night. she genuinely ushered us out the door and asked us twice when we were leaving even after we said we were leaving within the hour - we weren’t even allowed to sit in the lounge while we waited for our car to be ready, she was literally standing in the doorway i know it probably sounds like we karen-ed out but i promise we just aske

Despite arriving in some of the most hideous rain and wind weather possible, QdaC gave us a cosy, luxurious, delicious and completely pampered experience. We felt so lucky to have found this place. There was evidence everywhere that in peak summer season, this is definitely a rockin' family place, but as we found it is the quieter shoulder times where you can take really a breath, spread out and connect into something very special. From the thoughtful and fun architecture and art, (FYI, we discovered the Dior flagship shop in Lisbon ALSO has a textile sculpture by Joana Vasconcelos) to the meticulous decor emphasizing local and global originality. The immaculate and meditative vegetable and herb gardens and landscaping with hidden corners and surprises there's a peaceful and playful energy uncommon in many places of this caliber. We ate and drank, (and ate and drank...) VERY well and the spa experiences and facilities brought a new level of natural healing and deep relaxation. But even with ALL of this amazingness, for us it is the people, (with the help of two fabulous cats) at QdaC who make it five stars. ALL of the staff, (gate house to baristas, front desk to masseuse) manage a high-wire act of impeccable professionalism, highly knowledgeable information sourcing and good fun. We learned bits of new languages, had some great laughs, got the inside scoop on special places from Carvalhal to Nepal - all of it thoughtfully celebrating over and over how interconnected we all are/NEED to be, in this world right now.

Certain areas in need of upkeep, with flooding outside the room and chipping paint everywhere. It was difficult to get around the hotel on foot - particularly at night with poor illumination and no buggies. Every time you want to get to the car to head to a restaurant for dinner you’ll be walking for >5 minutes in the dark and pouring rain. Friendly but inexperienced staff. No area for hotel guests to socialise at night - the reception area is small and you’re pretty much on top of the receptionists and at the restaurant there’s limited seating if you’re not eating and you’ll be hounded to order drinks every few minutes. Every activity you can think of requires additional payment, which is in poor taste for a 5 star hotel. As far as luxury hotels in Comporta go, this one is not even close to the level of Sublime. If you’re on the fence, I would opt for Sublime any day of the week - better amenities, service, staff, food and overall experience.
