Tui 10 night holiday from 30/12 to 9/01/2024 to celebrate New Years eve and husbands birthday on the 2/1. On arrival we were upgraded to the Tabaiba Princess which was great as we found it was much better for an elderly couple with an adult only pool area and more adult entertainment in the evening in the bar area. This is two hotels sharing all facilities and the maspalomas side caters predominately for families. It is a very family friendly hotel so if you cant stand the noise of small children in the mail dining area or by the mail pool areas this is not the hotel for you. Having said that the food is exceptional in quality and choice and we adapted our eating times for when it was less crowded and noisy. The other two snack bars offered a great alternative for lunch with great salads etc and not just burger and chips. I am a vegetarian and found plenty of choice although I thought the food signage could be better as the mixed salads sometimes included ham etc. A special banquet was available for New Years eve which had to be booked and this involved queuing for ages which was not great. I think TUI could have prepared us for what was available on NewYears eve in advance so we could have maybe booked this on line before hand. The banquet its self on the night was great with table service and super food for meat eaters, I was very disappointed with the veggie main course and thought green beans, rice and a veggie pattie was the worse meal I had from the hotel ! the other courses were fish and sea food based which was fine as I eat fish. On a more positive note, after seeing the birthday cards in our room the hotel provided a bottle of Cava in an ice bucket, ready chilled with two champagne glasses and a note of birthday wishes which was a very nice touch and totally unexpected, a lovely suprise ! The walk to the sea is about 2 kms and a level walk, there is a famous lighthouse, shops and places to eat and of course the start of the famous sand dunes. We also used the local busses to Playa del Ingles and did two organised trips, one to Puerto Mogan by boat and a day trip touring the North of the island. Both were lovely and gave us another perspective of Gran Canaria. We did enjoy our holiday but I would advise anyone to make sure they do there research on the hotel to make sure it is suitable especially for older couples.
