We really weren't sure what to expect with this Lodge given that we knew there was no air conditioning and no glass on windows but we were very pleasantly surprised! I was worried about bugs but the hotel is extremely clean and well maintained and we didn't have any unwelcome visitors in our room (but i did keep all food, washbags etc shut away). I also laid a towel at the bottom of the doors but maybe that was just me being paranoid! The hotel itself is really well laid out, great pool area and decent food in restaurant. We were there only 2 nights and the food was better than expected. I would imagine it could get repetitive if staying for longer than 3/4 nights. The tours provided by the hotel were really well organised and informative. We managed to see turtles laying on the beach which was AMAZING! The transfers in and out of the hotel were excellent. Our flight was delayed coming in to San Jose so we actually missed our pick up but with great communication from the hotel we managed to catch it up and meet the rest of the group at the breakfast point to continue the rest of the journey.

The location is a tropical paradise with incredible gardens teeming with birds, incredible insects and beautiful elusive tree frogs. The pools are perfect and much needed in the sweltering heat of the area. The included buffet is fantastic and a good variety on offer. The major downside is the accommodation. Our room for three was like a humid, mosquito ridden shack that had dodgy electrics and offered little comfort from the blistering heat. The ceiling fan is useless. They need to install plantation style fans if air con is not an option. There was also nowhere to hang wet clothes but fortunately I always take a travel washing line!

We loved this place. Accessible by boat through canals, flanked on one side by the river and the Caribbean on the other, surrounded by forest and the most amazing wildlife, we highly recommend. Attentive and helpful staff, delicious meals with great selection, fun excursions, we loved the two pools and the outdoor bar space on the river. Seeing turtles laying eggs at night on the beach with a guide was so special! The breakfast lunch and dinner buffets were yummy with lots of choices.

An incredible place only accessible by river boat, with the lagoon on one side and the Caribbean on the other. The hotel was idyllic, with trees, wildlife and nesting turtles on the beach. The pool was warm, the garden well kept, and the food was good. Our room was a bit spartan, but we didn't spend much time there so it didn't matter. A great place to set off on a river and canal safari.

A truly magical place. We stayed in a standard+ lodge which was simple but more than suited our needs. We backed onto the forest so the noise from the frogs, birds and monkeys was incredible. Food in the restaurant was excellent. Lovely pool. Highly recommend a guided night walk to see the stunning turtles. Some areas of the lodge were a bit run down and needed a little update but overall, a wonderful experience.

Unfortunately when we stopped at Laguna Lodge the rain did not stop. But it didn't dampen our spirits and we were still able to go out onto the canal in the boats and so lucky to see crocs, countless iguana species, birds, parrots. Back at the lodge we had howler monkeys on our roof waking us up in the morning and were lucky enough to see a mum and baby in a tree in the resort. We also did the nature walks around the hotel and saw lots of frogs and lizards. During our 2 night stay we also did a trip to Tortuguero village to see Costa Rica's Caribbean heritage and learn about the work they are doing to help sea turtles which was a great day. Highly recommend this place. Great accommodation, we had fun playing cards with another couple one night sharing a bottle of wine in the bar area. Food was a good standard, staff were friendly and attentive and of course the wildlife and the fact you are on a river is just amazing.

This was the highlight of our Costa Rica tour. A completely ecofriendly hotel in the middle of the national park, with spectacular wildlife all around. The guide, Miguel, was fantastic, with incredible knowledge and enthusiasm, and all staff friendly and helpful. We were lucky on our night excursion to see a turtle lay her eggs. It was a long wait whilst a lot of effort was made to find them, so don‘t do it the first night if you are jet-lagged and not always possible. This is how tourism and nature preservation can combine for the best outcome.

Great eco lodge with a great naturalist guided tours. It takes a while to get there but the last part of the trip is through the canals so you can start to see the amazing wildlife. The hotel is comfortable with great staff and lovely pools. The trip included a guided boat tour of the park and we also added the awakening tour. Such an array of wildlife , spotted the sloths - well the boat and naturalist did ! Beautiful birds and reptiles. Beware the mosquitoes. Shirley our guide was helpful and very knowledgeable- thank you Shirley .

In line with expectations. Yes, the lodges are small, there’s no hanging space and the are a bit dingy but that’s pretty much what we expected based on descriptions. Wasn’t anticipating the cockroach in the bathroom. We were on a tour with other couples and several others also had same problem. Swimming pools are lovely and the Gaudi inspired mosaics everywhere are a nice touch. Mealtimes were chaotic. Really busy with group tours on big tables but food was actually good and plentiful. Rooms can be noisy but it is mostly due to wildlife which is kind of the reason we were there in the first place so can’t complain about that. Could do without the Randy dogs round your legs in restaurant!
