We booked a luxury room for 3 nights in this hotel that claims to have 4 stars. In an outlying and semi-residential area of Cologne, the hotel is located on a small street without character and with roadworks. Although very nice, the receptionist informed us upon our arrival that we were the only guests of the hotel for the first night. As a result, there would be no reception. To access the hotel in the evening, we would have a code for the front door. In case of a problem, a telephone number but the person who would answer only speaks German. Our room in this supposedly 4-star hotel is certainly large but that's where the luxury ends. A large bath (with shower) is open to the room (no partition). Little furniture but large cupboards. Very low-end plastic bedside lamps imitation metal. Frayed towels. No trestle to put the suitcases on, no refrigerator, no tea or coffee facilities and unstable Wi-Fi. The bar at the entrance of the hotel, which was supposed to be open, was closed. No services such as a small afternoon snack, swimming pool, sauna or exercise room. The next morning, at breakfast, no hot buffet because we are the only guests (and no discount on the price either). The attendant, although very smiley, stays in the kitchen. For the 2nd coffee, you have to go and ask her. The other 2 days, a hot buffet with scrambled eggs but no possibility of ordering other things... When paying, the explanations on the very high price of the room: Since we are during the International Trade Fair, the city of Cologne imposes a 40% increase on the usual price of the room and since we are not business people, a 5% tourist tax is added. Accepting that this is true, there would have been a way to lower the bill a little by offering us free parking and lowering the price of breakfast. So we paid more for our room than the one in Wiesbaden in a 5-star hotel in the city center or the one in Trier in a 4-star hotel (a real one). We have already had better service in B&Bs. Note that their website shows that it is a 4-star hotel and that there is a reception open 7/20 while the description on the Trip Advisor site indicates a 24/24 reception. We will keep a bad memory of our stay in Cologne with the feeling of having paid too much for the service received. Does the city of Cologne want to have tourists or only business people?
