Coimbra Hotels with Swimming Pools

Very basic chained hotel - take note there are old rooms and new rooms for the hotel in Coimbra. The photos listed mostly show the new rooms but we were given the old room which was super dated. Even the remote control for the TV was not working. We requested for the new room and thankfully one was available for immediate check-in. Apparently only 5 out of 90 rooms are revamped? Only the reception staff could speak English. Location was about 10 mins walk to city centre and 5 mins drive from Coimbra-B train station via Uber. Hotel close to public transport, including Coimbra train stations. Large and clean room with minibar and room service and other services available through the hotel's App, very practical.

The hotel is in the city center, within walking distance to the monastery, city hall, there are supermarkets and restaurants nearby, life is very convenient. Parking is free in the public underground parking lot not far away, very good. The breakfast tastes good.

Efficient service. Well maintained facilities. I had breakfast which was pleasant, good variety and good quality products.

Hotel Astoria embodies 1920 chic French decor. Much of that fashion remains in tact, but in fairness, also reflects its age. The hotel's location right on the river provides easy access to most of Coimbra. However, the city is essentialy a giant hill, so a 10 mins walk along a steep slope may be a significant inconvenience to many. The staff is extremly friendly and works hard to provide a comfortable stay. There is no swimming pool and guests may want to bring some additional amendities (body lotion). Those may have been available, I never bother asking. Wifi is only available in public areas. Easy to check emails but not great for working in the room. Will definitely consider another stay if the price is competitive to other hotels.
