Coco Lagoon by Great Mount

Awesome experience and family resort for the kids. Food should be better.

PROS: Friendly and helpful staff. We reached early, yet they allowed us to check in. Same way, on check out day, we were allowed to be in and use the property amenities till end of the day. No harsh treatment. Rooms and facilities were good - we stayed in a Deluxe one and that was good. Food was awesome especially if you have taste buds for Kongu style food. Access to Topslip, Parambikulam, Valparai, etc., - if you want to get yourself submerged into nature / green... Mr. Narayanan would organize trips. We went to Parambikulam Tiger Reserve and took 3 hours of safari - we don't get to do this often and so, was worth it. We took all activities - Pool, Pottery, River Walk (was favourable for us to venture into the river), Bullock Cart ride, Futsal court, indoor games like TT, Carrom, foosball, etc., - decent and enjoyable. Our kid enjoyed swimming pool to his fullest content. CONS: There could be more restrooms / toilet facilities in common areas. When the occupancy is more, it becomes unmanageable for them. Not all food were available all the time - so be mindful of the timings. VERDICT: Will definitely recommend - for bachelors, families - all alike. Great escape and got lost into Nature.

Some positives first: 1. The food we ordered for dinner was really nice. In particular the gajar halwa was delicious 2. The staff try their best but are visibly over whelmed / stretched on busy days like during the X Mas break when we visited 3. The property has a neat looking swimming pool, a well equipped children play area 4. The activities - bullock cart ride, pottery sessions are super fun for families with kids Now for the areas of improvement: 1. The room we stayed in had a wash basin outside the bathroom & inside the room, just behind our bed! Imagine someone gargling, spitting in the basin while you're sleeping in the bed just behind it - yucky! 2. The activities - river walk, bullock cart ride, pottery etc. are all bunched up in the morning at the same time & this is exactly the time the staff calls for you to check out! Please spread these activities out during the day for better utilisation of these facilities. 3. The staff did not give us a tour / explain to us the different facilities within the resort. For eg. we were not even aware that there was a play area for kids until we discovered the same - again only in the morning we were due to check out. There was an indoor room where there was a TT table, some other indoor games but the room smelt & looked more like a store room - there was no ventilation & the AC was switched off. The area outside the resort is beautiful - the resort should encourage guests to explore on a morning walk; not done currently. 4. The breakfast was ATROCIOUS! Never could i imagine inedible idlis as hard as a brick in the heart of Tamil Nadu. The watermelon juice was really more water than fruit. Just completely inexcusable. We asked for masala tea & were told that it was chargeable! Even the Lemon Trees of this world serve masala chai with breakfast. The restaurant staff, other than the staff that served us dinner was in general pretty unhelpful. 5. The area outside seemed really nice - we asked if we could take the cycles out for a ride in the morning & were refused. The cycles anyways were broken & need to be fixed before some kids falls & breaks something. There is one other serious issue that i must highlight here - i saw servers, housekeeping staff that were very clearly minor by age & by that i mean not older than maybe 13-14! It was horrible to see children around the same age as our kid serving us, cleaning our rooms. The owners need to self introspect & review their business ethics voluntarily...

Stayed here as a group of 30 cyclists for 2 nights. Welcoming atmosphere, clean immaculately kept property with a pool and amphitheatre. Had a karaoke session and games with Arul. The food was excellent. John managed the restaurant very well. Icing on the cake was christopher and his river walk. Thank you and will come again. Perfect base for valparai.

Though a small property, Rooms and property are well maintained. 5 star to food. 0 star to few of the staffs especially the front desk, room service. Camp fire was just a gimmick with just smoke and no actual fire. Discriminating guest which is the saddest part of the whole trip. Requested to switch on plunge pool filter multiple times, but didn't. Nothing much to see around. Overly priced against the amenities and service.

Coco Lagoon by Great Mount is a property that clearly reflects the love and affection of its owner. The design and architecture of the resort are commendable, showcasing thoughtful planning and a genuine effort to create a beautiful and serene retreat. It’s evident that a lot of heart went into building this asset, making it all the more disheartening to see where it currently stands. Unfortunately, the resort has completely missed the mark when it comes to service and upkeep. Cleanliness and hygiene, fundamental aspects of any hospitality experience, have been overlooked, leaving much to be desired. The service is inconsistent and lacks the attention to detail that a property of this caliber deserves. I sincerely hope that Sajith and his team can get their act together and restore Coco Lagoon to its full potential. It’s a place with so much promise, but without proper maintenance and a focus on guest experience, it risks falling short of what it could be. I also hope the owners realize the difference between the vision they created and the reality it has become. This property deserves better, and with the right changes, it could truly shine.
