La Costa de Papito was the perfect choice for lodging for us! The grounds are lovely - tidy and well maintained with various walkways going to the individual bungalows. It feels very private and peaceful. We stayed in a two BR bungalow which has a private common area in front (outside) and each BR has it’s own door. The bathroom is a separate door off the common area/porch, and was quite spacious. The bedrooms were very clean and the beds were comfortable. When I read about the mosquito nets around the beds, I was a bit apprehensive thinking that I’d be getting attacked by mosquitoes all night, but did not even see one! And while outside was very hot and humid, surprisingly sleeping was not an issue. There are enough fans in the rooms, both ceiling and standing ones, to keep it comfortable. That said, if you do not like white noise when you sleep, this could be an issue for you, as I wouldn’t want to try to sleep without the fans on! Breakfast was good and we liked the variety of choices offered. I loved the pitcher of fresh juice served each morning…. A different juice each day:) The staff was very welcoming, friendly and helpful! All in all a wonderful experience for us! I would definitely recommend staying here!

La Costa de Papito welcomed us in a friendly and pleasant way. The bungalow we stayed at (number 1) was way above expectations. Rustic, cosy, comfortable: it had all we needed in a style that fitted the surrounding environment. Very nice also the patio area. Personnel at the reception and at breakfast was helpful and accommodating. Breakfast is made on the spot, so fresh and very good quality (there are 5 menu options to choose from). Thank you for such an enjoyable stay!

We loved our 2 days stay in La Casa de Papito. The bungalow had everything that we needed to feel comfy: nice bathroom, comfy beds with mosquito nests, little but spacious fridge, power outlets next to the beds, nice table and hammock outside to hang out. The bungalows feel very private as they are not too close to each other, the grounds are beautiful with lush plants all around - you feel like you are in the middle od the jungle. The birds will wake you up early in the morning, so if you mind, use earplugs. The location is great, not very far from Puerto Viejo (3,000.00 crc/5 usd by tuktuk to get to the center), just across the road from Cocles Beach and a few great places to eat are just few minutes away by walking. Would totally reccommend this place!

The place looks like it has not recovered from Covid. The bubgalows are nice, but a lot is old, not working properly and compared to other places we have been, lots of mosquitos (the garden is more a swamp) and cockroches. There were constructions ongoing during the day, and during breakfast. It was not nice sitting there in the middle of it. There is an Indian restaurant renting the place in the evening, but we preferred more local food and did not try it. No pool, WiFi only in the reception. Family did not really like the breakfast. I think they mean well, but not sure there are the means and knowledge of running the place. We stayed one night and would not have stayed more.

The resort is VERY rustic. Bungalows are very clean and cozy but no A/C, drinkable water, restaurant, or anything much else. It was too isolated for us with too few amenities. We gotten eaten by bugs in our room. I would liken it to camping. Friendly staff, good breakfast. We moved resorts after one night. Feels like it needs work to get back to pre-COVID capacity.

The good bits - breakfast is lovely although you do have to order the night before, problematic if you have children with ever changing minds. The bad bits - The rooms are dark with no windows, even on the sunniest days you'll need the lights on. - Despite what the website says there is no restaurant, breakfast is all they offer. There are several restaurants close by but if it rains too much they will close and you'll be left hungry. We were left in this situation with 4 children, we expressed out plight with the owner he told us they don't offer dinner, at that point 15+ meals were wheeled out of the kitchen for a large group who had pre-booked a meal in advance. After talking down to us for several minutes he did eventually offer us some chicken & rice that was left over. Indeed kind of him but we wouldn't have booked there had we known they didn't over a restaurant every night. - Also despite what the website says you will not be greeted by clapping welcoming staff. To the contrary in fact, the staff seemed annoyed by even the simplest of queries. - The whole place will flood during heavy rain, you will have to wade to get out and cars may not be able to get in. Bare this in mind if you've arranged a pick up - The breakfast area which I guess was formally the restaurant has a huge unsightly blue tarp cover over the roof but this does not stop the rain pouring in. You'll find buckets all over the place. - Despite the sorry state of repair, the owner appears to be upgrading his own palace at the top to renovations and noisy machinery going all day. - There is a gravel road to the north of the property next to bungalow 7 and the lorries, vans and cars are particularly noisy The place has potential but would need a lot of work, there are some really lovely properties close by that I wished we'd booked instead

Everything we could have ever dreamed of!! ♥️ We had our wedding here with 22 guests. It was so beautiful we can’t thank you all enough! So grateful for everything you did for us. It was perfect- from the bungalows, to breakfast everyday, the ceremony, reception. Eddie helped us with all of the details including helping us with last minute shuttles to San Jose. Elsie did a wonderful job with my hair and nails the day of the wedding. The massage was great too! At the reception Mickey was so accommodating and helped us set up games at the reception. Thank you again from the bottom of our hearts ♥️ -Terry and Sara Thomas

These are cute little bungalows. There is a nice wood carved table and hammock on the porch. Each bed has a mosquito net although the whole bungalow does have screens. However, there are cracks where mosquitoes and other bugs can easily get in although it wasn't a huge problem. We were grateful that they gave us a bungalow large enough for 6 people when there were only 4 of us. There was no fridge or microwave or tv. They gave us just 1 complimentary bottle of water in the room. The bungalow was not in great shape. The toilet was constantly leaking all over the floor, causing the entire bath rug to become saturated. The sink faucet only has one temperature and was leaking. The shower was good, however. There was a soap dispenser for the sink and an unknown soap dispenser for the shower that smelled like coconut. I'm not sure if it was shampoo or body wash, so we just used it for both. Also, it didn't really feel clean. The floor felt grimy when we first walked in so I would recommend flip flops to wear the entire time you are inside. In addition, the bedsheets are all gray so you can't really tell if they are dirty or not. The really horrible thing about the bungalows was that there was no AC. In a place with 100% humidity just about all the time, it was near unbearable. There are strong fans over each bed, but that just made me super sore the next morning. Breakfast was decent, but you had to preorder the day before and tell them what time you are going to breakfast as well which is not great when you want to relax and take things as they come on vacation. The breakfast is just one plate of whatever you order. It was fairly hearty but not enough for a teenage boy. It is served with different juices which were delicious. They do provide beach towels, but there was an issue when we could not get clean beach towels because they weren't ready yet. So just make sure you always have clean beach towels on hand. To get ice, you have to ask at reception, and they just gave us one glass. They did have a water dispenser in the lobby although it wasn't refrigerated. Wifi was ok. Sometimes it was really good and others, you had to go near the reception desk. I think if you prepare yourself for glamping, you'll be fine. Otherwise, find somewhere else.

We had two nights booked for a bungalow and we knew going in that it would be more rustic lodging than other destinations, since Puerto Viejo is a more laid-back vibe. However, our bungalow was nothing like the pictures, so do not expect your bungalow to look anything like the pictures. When we went to take showers the first night, the hot water did not work. So I went to the front desk and asked for someone to help. The young lady at the desk said that he would stop by in 5 minutes. When 45 minutes went by and it started to get later, I stopped by and told them that he still had not come, she went in the back and said loudly that I was crying about not having hot water. First of all, I did not cry so I do not appreciate her snarky attitude. Secondly, hot water is not a big request when you are paying $130 a night for a bungalow. Her comment was unprofessional and unnecessary. The following day, friendly workers tried to fix the water all day but it was clear to use that this was an existing problem that was not able to be repaired. They had no other bungalows available, so we packed up our things and left early for the next leg of our trip. When we asked to refund the second night, we were told it was not possible. ¡Ten cuidado en la Costa de Papito!
