This was a wonderful hotel! It was very clean and the location was amazing. It’s literally on the beach and it’s such a clean and popular beach. The restaurant served limited food but what we ordered was delicious. The breakfast was good but the lady that was working at breakfast was very abrupt and made you feel uncomfortable. I would also prefer a kettle in my room but of course I understand it takes you to the restaurant.The shower was strange as it didn’t have a door or curtain and no option of having the shower hooked up so you had to hold it. The weather was on the cool side and didn’t rise above 24 degrees but it was warm at times I’m at night so I would assume it could get uncomfortable in heights of summer.

We really enjoyed our stay at the San Mar. We wanted a Cantabrian hotel that was right on the beach so we could lie in bed and listen to the sea, so this hotel was perfect. The playa de Luaña is a lovely beach with a small surf school and lifeguards/ first aid. Walk down the steps of the hotel and the beach is at the bottom- perfect! Our double room had a terrace which was nice although mainly on the shade from the afternoon on. The bed was actually two singles, and the mattresses seemed to be memory foam which were very warm at night. There was no air conditioning but we were anxious about mosquitoes. The hotel supplied a plug in bug zapper for the room. Rooms were made up every day, which was lovely. Fresh towels also every day. Breakfast was self service in the basement and was ok- a choice of fruit, yogurt and lots of bread, jamón and queso, with some croissants, jams etc. We had a drink in the bar every night and often played cards on the terrace. Service could be a bit slow. We had dinner in the restaurant twice (much preferred it to the one opposite) and food was good value. Overall a lovely place. Was quite expensive (€120/night) and often we were waiting to get the attention of the staff- both check in and out we were waiting for at least 10 minutes for people to come. Service could also be a little gruff at times. We would recommend a stay here- the location is also great with Comillas and Santillana within easy drives, plus the amazing Restaurant El Remedio.

The view of the beach, free parking and little else, like eating in a restaurant from the 70s and the service is very good. I don't know if it's because they have too many customers or if they are from abroad and they don't care about taking care of them, the food is not at all appetizing, you can eat but nothing stands out. we will not return

A weekend with a great temperature, it had been years since I had bathed on a beach in the north, the beach is very beautiful and the hotel is right on the beach, with unbeatable views from the terrace of the room and from the restaurant (terrace). The room was good, comfortable and the entire hotel was very clean and well-kept. Very attentive service. The waiter who served us both days in the restaurant was very correct and professional. Good food, without any problems. Totally recommended, we will return.

We went to the restaurant. The views are very beautiful, but it's been a long time since I've had such a bad meal. TRUTHY mussels. I didn't think it was possible. Impossible to swallow them. Vergonzoso. Sólo puedo decir eso. Llegué hace 2 días, tenía reservada una habitación standar como las que salen cuando miras su información, con vistas a la playa y con nuy buena pinta.Nada más entrar antes de ver la habitación, tienes que pagar. El resultado es, una habitación en el sótano, al lado de la lavandería y de la cafetería ( por la mañana la señora que la lleva habla para todo el hotel, por no hablar del ruido). Cuando entras en la habitación te das cuenta de que la única ventana que hay está entre el sótano y el suelo, con unas macetas por delante, lo que se llama un zulo. Cuando vas a recepción y reclamas te dicen que es la que te han asignado. Entendería que la tuvieran como habitación de cortesía, pero para estancias es vergonzoso y más cuando he pagado de 2 noches, en sólo alojamiento 194€. La familia que lo lleva muy antipáticos.
