The Water Rat Ironbridge

We have stayed at the water rat many times before. We arrived booked in and went to the room. The room we had booked was the family room which as I have mobility issues was ideal, As we had stayed in this room several times before we knew it was in fact two rooms which again was ideal as I don't sleep well and I disturb my husband so he could sleep in the other room. He went in the main room first and came straight out saying the second room was locked we didn't have the key so he went to find out why. He came back with a member of staff who clearly wasn't happy as she said there's only two of you. We didn't think you'd need it she did open the door but said to my husband as there was just the two of us we wouldn't be charged any more but if there were more people would be charged more money. Why when the room is for four people would we be charged more when the room was advised st a set price. We have had many happy stays previously but due to the attitude of the member of the we won't be staying here again.

Went for a evening meal beginning of the week. Service was without a smile and bottled tomato sauce was watered down. Unbeknown to us place shut at 9pm but they served us drinks at 8.45pm. Rudely told us at 9.10pm we shut at 9pm you shouldn’t still be here. A warm welcome doesn’t await you.

Had the 2 course meal, starter and main. Beautiful food with a nice view, plenty of food to choose from, variety of drinks. Staff are happy and helpful. Lovely pub. Can sit in side or in the garden. It's beautiful outside with the river just a few feet away.

We stayed in the family room, which felt a little tired and tatty in places: peeling paint, door handle coming away, and a cracked, leaking bathroom ceiling (dripping right over our basin). The double bed was small and very soft - very uncomfortable. The noise from the room above was a real problem - we could hear every creaky footstep, plus TV and voices - it stopped us from sleeping. The room opened out onto a rather bleak corner of the car park. It all needs a bit of a facelift really. The pub served decent pub grub, and the breakfast was good. The lady who served us breakfast was lovely and friendly. The room was very clean, but we wouldn't stay there again because of the noise from the room upstairs. I appreciate it's an old building, but I've never stayed somewhere with such bad soundproofing before.

We returned to stay at The River Rat for one night with family and absolutely loved it, again! The place has character and charm, and the location in Ironbridge couldn’t be better. Just a short walk into center. The staff were incredibly friendly and welcoming, making us feel right at home. The highlight has to be the beer garden – sitting right by the river, it’s the perfect spot to relax with a drink and enjoy the views. We loved the breakfast which was served by lovely friendly staff. A great pub, a lovely atmosphere, and a fantastic base for exploring the area. We’ll definitely be back!

Great overnight stay. Super large room, very well decorated and comfortable. Nice touches with proper cups and saucers, milk and cooled water in a fridge in the hall. Comfortable beds and good linen. In a great location to walk into Ironbridge so no need to take the car. And the bonus of a fabulous cooked breakfast. Would definitely recommend a stay here.
