We booked in 2023 but when we got there the pub was closed. It was new year's day and the last day of our holiday so we had absolutely nothing to eat. So we decided to try again because the landlady had explained that one of her customers had been taken ill and she'd had to close. I booked believing it would be busy and explained i was vegan to which she replied that wasn't a problem and she'd get 'chef' to sort something out. When we got there it was sooo cold inside. The landlady said the one vegan option was a tart tatin. No other vegan options. So I went with that and my husband had the pie of the day. I said vegetables would be great. Vegetables arrived which were cauliflower 'cheese' and 'creamy' mash which was in the same dish as the sprouts, broccoli and carots. They'd been pre cooked and microwaved, by the look of it. Absolutely tasteless. So for £15 I got a tart and some chips!! Husband's pie was quite good but swimming in gravy. Beer was £5.80 and a small bottle of wine £6.30. Very very disappointing

Amazing and friendly a definite port in a storm. Last two storms we have ended up at this pub. Despite their own flood there was a great welcome. Great food and well worth a visit. The roast on a Sunday is superb and they have a good menu selection. Their guiness is superb

We stopped here on a visit to see our son in Clovelly, had picked something up in Plymouth and driven across country with in intention of picking up lunch in a pub. It had got to 2.30pm and nowhere we had passed seemed to be open. Stopped here, on the off chance and very relieved we did. The owner was very accommodating, she was dealing with another party, but said she could cook us anything we wanted off the menu, it wouldn't be a problem. Food was good and all lovely and hot, just what a couple of hungry travellers needed. Thank you for taking such good care of us it was much appreciated.

Booked a Sunday lunch for 12:30 as when I rang was told very busy at 1pm,was grateful she got us in.Arrived 12:15 and it was empty, greeted with a lady who made it clear we were early ,wasn’t asked our name and was told the table in the corner was available and have a drink while we waited ,my husband went to the bar to order drinks to be told by the same lady the cooler system wasn’t working ,but still poured a pint and I had a cider, when we drank it there was no fizz and both drinks completely flat, she came over and asked if everything was ok and my husband said the beer was flat, she replied there’s bubbles in it then she asked if he wanted a bottle of beer and he said no will have a coke, she brought coke to table and said that’s got bubbles, then asked if we wanted to order our food we said no,we felt really uncomfortable and decided to pay for drinks and leave,no apology she took money for drinks and said we will miss out on the best roast in Devon. Will not be going back

we had been to barnstaple for a hospital appointment..on the way back we called in here for a meal as it was getting late and i had heard that they do good food..The choice was limited, so we had the steak and ale pie..which was ok except for the pastry on top was burnt..the vegetables came in a large disth with no seasoning just very bland..my friends pint was also very flat, which he didn1t take back..he just left it..on paying and leaving,we were not asked if our meal was ok or acknowledge us..it wasn`t busy neither..i can honestly say their food wasn`t up to scratch, maybe it was a one off,but i will stick with our local in future

Went to the bike night for something to eat. Conversation went like this hello are you still serving food. Yes but we are very busy with a long wait. Okay could you give a rough idea how long the wait would be. Reply, I'm not a mathematician. I thought how true, you also are a very rude and obnoxious woman. Decided not to eat and ordered drinks. Order taken then had to wait 15 minutes for them to be served. Cost extortionate. £3.50 for a half of lemonade with lime. Overall view rude staff, poor service and bad experience. Avoid!!!

Great value break staying in a historical coaching inn. Booked at last minute and wasn't many other places available within my budget, but the West Country Inn exceeded our expectations and we ended up staying 2 nights rather than just one. Comfortable en suite room with tea/coffee facilities Plenty of parking available Breakfast and evening meal available and food was excellent Good location with easy access to nearby places such as Clovelly and Bude Friendly and welcoming staff There was nothing to dislike or complain about and I would stay here again
