The staff were excellent very welcoming and efficient, the new owners had only been there a few weeks and it was all so smoothly run you wouldn’t have known it .the room was spotless and had everything we needed.. The food was excellent, and not expensive.compliments to the chef! Good choice for breakfast and nothing was too much trouble. Will definitely recommend it and go back again.

I rarely feel motivated to give a bad review. Having eaten at this pub many times I looked forward to staying. Sadly the accommodation was very disappointing. The room, a double was very small with the double bed leaving less than 2 ft each side. Having a mild disability I found the very high bed difficult to climb into. I could not regard this room as a place to go to relax in. The one chair in the room was a wooden dining chair, not ideal for relaxing in. The TV was not working either. The staff were very helpful but seriously stretched as they were understaffed during the whole of our stay. The food was excellent but the experience ruined by loud rap music blasting out. This was apparently controlled by head office (Punch Group). A poor choice for a country pub mainly patronised by older clients. Many fellow diners were complaining too. We were not impressed either to be asked during dinner on our first evening to pay upfront immediately for the whole stay. I will not be recommending to any of my friends.

Pub good. Staff good. Food good. No lemon or lime available for G&T but 'beer good' too.
Room was not good. It has clearly been very nice but it isn't any more.
The facilities are OK, but the room and the shower room both now really need a good 'deep clean' to reach acceptable standards.
The visitors book shows comments from 2023 and 2024 that have not been addressed - 'noisy fan in bathroom' is still noisy, 'chipped paint doesn't look nice neither does bathroom damp on walls', there's problem with supply of towels (no bath towel available when we visited), 'lots of cobwebs' (28/08/2024), and 'could do with more staff'.
Just two young men ran the business during our stay - one did all the cooking, the other did all front-of-house' jobs. They are both friendly and very hard-working.
If you decide to stay please note that rooms are only serviced on request (place a hanger in window to alert staff).
I would certainly eat and drink here, but I wouldn't stay again.

Quiet and comfortable but lacklustre
We stayed for one day midweek.Check-in was easy,we were shown to our room.
Comfortable bed in a quiet room.
Bad bits - bathroom not terribly clean,no BBC on tv.,only ITV and Channel 4.No one visible for checkout.
Food good and served quickly.Breakfast very good.General lack of care and enthusiasm about their customers.

This pub has recently been taken over by Dan. Dans does not currently have a cleaner, but Dan thinks it’s ok to charge over £150 per night for a room which hasn’t been cleaned in multiple visits. Dan thinks ants in the kettle and dirty cafetières are acceptable. Dan thinks wee stains and poo stains on toilets are ok. Dans girlfriend who doesn’t work at the pub came for a visit and ended up having to re-clean our room. The pub floor is more food waste than carpet. Dan employs one member of staff to take breakfast orders , cook it, serve it and clean up. Dan only has one tea pot in the pub so only one table could have tea. Dans staff don’t smile, and have no customer service skills (except the breakfast guy- he’s great). Dan promised me a 50% refund for my stay, (which he agreed was unacceptable ) over a week ago and I haven’t received it. Dan did email me complaining that he is working 6 days in a row and hasn’t seen his kids all weekend as an excuse. Nice one Dan.

Fabulous lunch today. Good deal of meal and drink for £13.50. Pub's as welcoming as always was, dined in lovely garden - fish n chips n mushy peas for us and bowls of chips for children. Really good pint of Landlord. Very pleasant and obliging staff. Nice vibe but more should visit. I'd spend all day if I could but too much to see nearby.
