Hotels Near Thorntonhall in Clarkston

Two days at The Open at Royal Troon this week (Jul 24) and searched TA & Google for convenient hotels. Stumbled over The Redhurst - 30 min drive from golf course. So - took a punt. WOW - WHAT A FIND! OUTSTANDING value for money. Very modern and lovely furnished small hotel. Restaurant was excellent. Bar - well designed and great buzz. Bedroom, though not huge, was good enough and really well furnished, equipped and super comfortable bed and delightfully presented. Ver clean, well furnished with great in room nibbles ( be warned!). Ensuite with shower was well designed and furnished. Dinner menu was not large but more than adequate - simple straight forward good nosh. Crispy BBQ chicken strips , as a starter, is a must- delicious . Their steak & ale pie - WINNER! Meat quality was excellent & plentiful. All freshly cooked, hot and very very tasty. BUT.. the absolute star(s) of the show were the staff. Rarely have I met such young, motivated and customer focussed staff. From front desk, through bar to breakfast & dining staff - all were simply outstanding. They could not have done anything to make our stay any more pleasant. OUTSTANDING! I would highly recommend this hotel whether visiting on Scottish golf tour or Glasgow.I will be organising a golfing trip back to the West coast & will definitely be visiting again this lovely hotel. First class hotel with excellent staff and rooms,I stay here every week while working up Scotland. The rooms are modern and spotless with everything you need. All of the staff who I have got to know over the last year are excellent at there jobs and can’t do enough for you.breakfast is very good with plenty of choices, evening meals are good also. I would definitely stop here with my family rather than just for work

Parklands Hotel & Country Club is a hidden gem. From the moment we stepped into the hotel it was well decorated, given a wedding vibe to us. The wedding area for ceremonies and evening reception gaves you an insight of how the big day would work. It's very well structured and thought out so it flows well and no cross over with guests staying in the hotel. The surrounding area has loads of space for wedding photos/videos such as a close by woods, open grass area and the baloney at the top of the hotel for those stunning photo opportunities. Jennifer (events manager) is an unbelievable coordinator when it comes to weddings. We met up with her 3/4 times throughout the year to makes sure everything was on track and if anything needed done or changed. On the day she made my wife and I feel so relaxed, making sure we just enjoyed the day with friends and family. If there was any issues on the day I wasn't aware due to Jennifer dealing with everything. Staff all day couldn't do enough for us. They looked after all guests and if we needed anything extra they would make sure to get it. We even had a visit from the owner of Parklands which I found it very humbling and appreciated to take time out to see us. The food was delicious, not just on the day but we visited the restaurant a couple of times before the wedding. I'd recommend to go in for dinner to see how good the steak pie is. We visited wedding venues ranging from Greenock to East Kilbride and Parklands came on top. The value for money for a full wedding (90 people for us) is amazing. This is from them organising, planning, the look, great food, professional staff and a stressless experience for my wife and I. I'd recommend to go in for a look and chat, thats all it took for us to know it was the place for us. Thank you Parklands for making our wedding day so unforgettable. Mr & Mrs Grassie

We travelled from Ireland to stay in your premises for 3 nights. Everything seemed OK on arrival. We went to the room but I had to make a complaint to reception about the shower which was not working correctly ( as stated on your website ensuite rooms are refurbished to luxurious standards), I wouldn't call a shower hose from a mixer tap luxurious. To this I didn't get a satisfactory answer. We left immediately without having  a good inspection of the room as we were pushed for time to meet with friends for dinner. On return that evening as we were about to go to bed we pulled back the bed clothes and saw what looked like body hairs  on dirty sheets. On closer examination we saw a filthy duvet cover, undersheet and a badly stained mattress which was absolutely disgusting. There was also a bad smell from the bathroom among other descrepencies which I won't go into now. We made the decision not to stay so I went to reception to complain and request the return of my payment as the room was not fit for purpose and I feel that it was mis sold to us. I brought your supervisor to the room and  Of course he dismissed my complaint and queried why we left it so late to bring this matter to his attention in a way that was condescending to me even after explaining  the reason. This was extremely inconvenient as we had to find elsewhere to accommodate us at short notice which proved costly, having to book into numerous hotels to cover our trip.

This was one of the best ever experiences I had in my 20 year long travel and stays. Especially I would like to mention this girl on reception the day we checked in, was excellent and exceptional. This hotel is no less than 5 star. I will recommend to everyone plz do try once and you will see it for yourself

I really wanted to leave a great review for this hotel. We stayed for an ultimate spa break to celebrate my daughter finishing her exams and leaving school. She was really looking forward to it. Our initial impressions were good, the grounds are beautiful and the reception staff were attentive and friendly. When we reached our room we were a bit disappointed as the room wasn’t to the same standard as other McDonald hotels we have stayed in and sadly that became our constant thought throughout the whole stay. The decor is very tired and the whole place could do with an overhaul. Paper peeling from walls, we had tissue paper stuck underneath the handles on the windows to keep them closed. The relaxation room of the spa was horrible as the ceiling looked mouldy and the paper was peeling off the walls. We had dinner the first night. We had looked at the menu online however it was totally different when we went into the restaurant and the choices weren’t great. We ordered cocktails and both agreed they were the worst cocktails we had ever had, they cost £9.95 each and I didn’t drink mjne at all. Breakfast the next morning was shambolic, there was 8 of us in the restaurant and the staff were running around like headless chickens saying they were so busy and tables weren’t cleaned, we waited a ridiculous length of time to order our food and it took forever to come. We had afternoon tea booked as part of the deal, again it wasn’t great. It had obviously been made well in advance of our booking time and the break on the sandwiches were hard and the cakes cheap and uninteresting. We ate out elsewhere our second evening. We both enjoyed our spa treatments which helped rescue the weekend. Breakfast on our final morning was better as it was a buffet style although we had to wait ages to ask staff for plates as there were none available to lift up (apparently the plate warmer was broken so they weren’t leaving plates out). I think that the staff of Crutherland House are doing the best they can however something has gone wrong with the running of this hotel and it needs attention . We wouldn’t recommend it to friends and next time will go somewhere else

My husband and I have stayed at this hotel around 8 times and absolutely loved it. Beautiful modern comfy rooms, lovely bar area and the best ever showers! We have always experienced first class service from lovely staff. This unfortunately came to an end when we checked in last month. There was one really lovely young lady at reception as we arrived but she was caught up with another guest sorting out a problem with the TV remote control. I believe this girl summoned another staff member to come out from the office to deal with us. Out she came, never said hello, no eye contact infact was cold, and it made me feel uncomfortable. I'm guessing she was not happy at being called out of the office. So, with a cold and hostile attitude, we were checked in and given keys. As we always requested a downstairs room, I noticed our room was upstairs. I asked if there were no downstairs rooms, and we had requested this. She said”yes so I see,” and said no, there aren't any . So would you not think that when checking someone in who had requested a downstairs room, you would at least acknowledge this. Unfortunately, this has put me off returning and we have been staying at a different hotel. It's such a shame when the hotel is lovely and that one ”huffy” receptionist can ruin everyone else's hard work.

Excellent service from walking through the door Mark on reception was pleasant efficient and very helpful at check inn ,my room as ready a little early and was still allowed to check inn , room was good with no issues nice and clean bed very comfortable, all the staff are very pleasant and welcoming, food and service i cannot fault , for me the location is ideal being close to the M74 , a good overall hotel staff location and rice rolled into one , i will be staying here again well done guys . I wouldn't quite go as far as to say I complain about everything, however I am the perinnial 'grumpy old man' when it comes to hospitality in the UK as of late. Also, I am not the biggest fan of the lower cost hotel brands and it is rare I right this type of review (it may be the first). However I have spent two nights at the Holiday Inn Express in Hamilton and I have been overwhelmed. The customer service at EVERY level was exceptional, occasionally you get one good member of staff but from check in, to breakfast and the simple questions they go the extra mile. The reception staff met me with a big smile and a warm welcome, my room was clean and well serviced and the reception is roomy and pleasant. Breakfast was the standard Holiday Inn Express, but cooked well and well presented. But that doesn't quite cut it, I had a few small questions, simply where I could print a document, get a cup of tea and find a gift for my partner (I forgot her Easter egg). None of this was too much and everything was sorted quickly. I probably spend 200 nights a year in hotels and colleagues spend significantly more, I will be exclusively using IHG going forward and recommending we all do the same. Thank you to all of the staff there.
