Nice, long suffering staff, I honestly feel sorry for them. We moved from our extremely grotty room, think black damp, stained surfaces, stained carpets, unstraighened lampshades, loud road noise, tired bathroom to a move to a room at the back that had been newly decorated but still had a tired bathroom. My most important comment is saved until last. A fire alarm went off for a couple of minutes in the middle of the night. Our room phone did not work despite the 24 hour on call promised on the paperwork in the room. Another guest had theirs ring once and then it was disconnected! Some guests made their way to the outside fire meeting point, no staff to do a role call....this should be standard even with a false alarm. Calls to the hotel went to answerphone. A guest called the fire service as those who had got up were extremely concerned and with no member of staff to say otherwise the Fire Service came out to do a whole site check. Still no staff on the ground, not even to say it was a false alarm. 40 guests were in the hotel, 33 remained in their beds so it was very lucky there was no fire, it had the potential to be a disaster. No apology in the morning and in fact the General Manager point blank refused to speak to guests on the phone despite given the opportunity of the right of reply and could not tell them when he would be next in to work!! Shockingly bad Health and Safety practice and I hope the Fire Service write up a full report, they were astounded that there was no system in place for fire alarms. I believe this is non compliance of Health and Safety Law and protocol. This hotel is dangerous and I would not recommend, I would go so far as to say AVOID, AVOID, AVOID!
