Being engaged to a tunisian girl i fly frequently to tunis from the UK.
Location of the hotel is good, 15 minutes from airport, busy area but i dont think its an area to walk around at late night.
Ive tried loads of the hotels ranging from 2 stars to 4 star hotels in tunis city, hamamet and sousa areas.
This hotel is a small hidden gem.
I was Greeted with a smile when i came around midnight, check in took a minute (unfortunately wasn't given the wifi password on the spot had to ask for it latter on)
The wifi was very fast in the room, i had no issues with connectivity
The owner offered me a complementary bottle of water which i appreciated cause if was thirsty and hungry, they offered to get me some food from a nearby fast food place, so i requested a sandwich which i paid 15 tunisian dinners for ( didnt likee the sandwich much but i appreciated there help đ đ đ )
The hotel itself is very very nice, not a generic build, had a tunisian look to it with paintings everywhere, they have like a small venue area down in reception
The room was spacious and again nothing generic about it.
The beds were steel frame beds so nothing fancy but the mattress was new and comfortable
Everything was spot on clean
flat tv on the wall and an A/C unit which was functional, all remotes were there in the room.
The rooms were very calm, no noise and most important they WEREN'T PAPER THIN !!!!
No kettle or tea/coffee in the room
2 towels in bathroom, small to medium size, no large ones
Shampoo was available in packets, they supplied 2,
Toiletries available, very clean modern toilet, no leaks
Overall
I loved this hotel, i paid 20 pounds for the night and i am 100% sure i will be coming again soon
A good, cozy hotel, we had a beautiful view of the zoo, not far from a cent (taxi about 6 dinar), made fresh repair (this is the Golden Tulip building - ordering a taxi point it out exactly as Companile nobody knows. Breakfast for the three with a plus, there is no natural coffee and juice, vegetables and fruit little (there is a sense to have breakfast in the nearby cafe). Staff in most English speaking, friendly. Of the main shortcomings the gym, the pool works from 08:00 (or even 09:00) and until 6:00
Apparently the Dar houses in Tunisia is similar to the Riads in Morocco. What I like about this hotel: 1. Although the place is not as elaborately decorated as some riads in Morocco (e.g. Riad Naya in Marrakesh medina), it is still very charming and tasteful. 2. The place only has 8 rooms (including 2 suites). I had the suite with its own private patio which is totally secluded. 3. The location is also great. It is not on one of the main street of Rue du Pacha but off in a side alley (Rue El Kahia) so it is very quiet. This hotel is Dar Ben Gacem Kahia. On Rue du Pacha there is a Dar Ben Gacem. Could be confusing for some people. 4. Like the riads in Morocco, the roof-top âgardenâ was fantastic, giving guests a place to relax outside their rooms. 5. Breakfast was quite good, serving made-to-order omelet, bread, fruit juice, coffee, ricotta cheese, yoghurt, fruit salad etc. 6. The host, Slim, was very professional, friendly and approachable. He made my stay very pleasant. Room to improve: Not much. Just some minor issues, such as: - the bread and croissant could be fresher. If it is too much to serve freshly baked goods in a small hotel, perhaps warming the bread or croissant for a few minutes in the oven would be great - bedside right table drawer opened only 6 inches, some of the window wood panels did not close properly, the guest room's main door handle was very loose (and almost dangling) - breakfast was good but inefficient. My suggestion to the hotel, is switching to a buffet breakfast. Right now, each guest gets a juice, coffee or tea, fresh fruits, bread and pastry, some desserts. Instead of bringing it all in a large tray, the items were brought to the guest one at a time. This was not efficient because one morning I was missing a teaspoon, another morning there was no napkin. Then others got a basket of fruits except me. Another morning another guest was waiting for his coffee for so long that I gave him mine. One morning a few Italian tourists finished the coffee and fruits etc. and left before the staff brought the omelette. I guess they were not told that the omelettes were coming. The staff seemed to be a little frantic to me, running around. A buffet will solve the problem. Also not everyone has the same appetite. This will eliminate food waste. Does the food that a guest couldn't finish, get used again for another guest. If not then there is a lot of food waste. A great hotel should pay close attention to details, and do the minor repairs before they become an issue.
Mixed review, but overall too pricy hostel for the quality of the service. Having a good location and a cute decoration isnât enough. Pros and cons below :
Pros :
- Amazing location in the heart of the Medina ideally located
- Cute hostel with beautiful tiles
- Kind and helpful staff
Cons :
- The room we booked in advance was not available when we arrived. Instead of a double bed room, we were put in a bunk beds room with no explication or apologies. No solution, accommodations or compensation were offered to us afterwards. Very poor service from the hotel on that side and I saw online afterwards itâs not the first time theyâre doing that
- Noisy hostel with no soundproof rooms at all. All the rooms are close to each other and open to the dining area with the breakfast starting at 7:30am and people coming back very late at night. Earplugs very much needed
- Average breakfast, the quality of the products is poor knowing what is available in the area. Be careful with water as some plastic bottles for breakfast are filled with tap water
- Be aware youâll have to walk at least 5min in little paved streets after taking off your taxi and finding a taxi to leave the area wonât be always very easy
With a stay at Dar Ben Gacem in Tunis (Medina of Tunis), you'll be within a 15-minute walk of Habib Bourguiba Avenue and Palais Khereddine. This guesthouse is 8.7 mi (13.9 km) from La Goulette Beach and 0.2 mi (0.3 km) from Le Diwan.
Make use of convenient amenities, which include complimentary wireless internet access and concierge services.
Featured amenities include a computer station, express check-in, and express check-out.
Make yourself at home in one of the 7 guestrooms.
Beautiful hotel. Single room a little too small. Really accurate and precise service with towel change in the evening and room check. Only negative note they didn't call me for the wake up call even though I recommended it... I hope next time they give me a bigger room đ
Itâs hard to find any issues with this hotel and so Iâd fully recommend it for anyone wanting to stay in the centre of the city. They arranged a seamless airport transfer which, given the narrow secluded street the hotel is on, makes me wonder if a standard taxi would be able to find it so would also recommend anyone to book through the hotel! Check in was exceptionally friendly and although my room wasnât ready at my early arrival time I was accommodated well and made to feel welcome while waiting. The interior of the building is amazing, with the different rooms, high ceilings and sense that youâre somewhere full of history and special. The scent throughout is incredible and feels like walking through a spa wherever you are. The courtyard around which the accommodation floors are located is beautiful and could almost be a destination in itself in the city. My room was on the fourth floor and seriously impressive. The size was huge, with a dedicated living area, spacious bedroom, dressing area, separate toilet, large bathroom with twin sinks, plus a bath and walk in shower. The sheer space meant there were a couple of sizeable TVs, lots of reading material, multiple complimentary bottles of water and every amenity you could think of present, including electric socket adapters in the drawers - brilliant. Electric sockets were present at both sides of the bed and there were so many light switches throughout the space to get the mood just right, The bed was massive and provided exceptional sleep quality, despite there being occasional noise from the streets below. The underfloor heating throughout the room added to the cosines and the continuation of the pleasant scent was lovely. The bathroom continued the great vibes having brilliant towels, lovely toiletries, heated towel rails, nice gowns, and so much space. In fact the only complaint I can have about the room is that the shower took a long time to get warm and there werenât many hangers in the extensive wardrobe space! There is a nice rooftop terrace connected to the restaurant and while it doesnât offer unobstructed views itâs a good spot to watch the sunset and get a different perspective over the Tunis rooftops. Thereâs a full bar available and lots of food options, but it is rather fish / seafood heavy which might not suit everyone. Presentation of the dishes is great though with everything well cooked and very tasty. The service from the staff is decent and with the couple of sofas a good spot to relax in the afternoon sun. As a more boutique hotel it was exceptional, in a prime location in the city to be able to walk to a number of key sites, and Iâll certainly be staying again when Iâm next in the city.
