If you are looking for a typical and vintage place in the heart of Tunis 🇹🇳, this is here 🤩The very warm welcome, the room is quite large and the wifi at the rdv. Breakfast is included and all at a price that remains more than reasonable. Ideal for its nearness to the places to visit, restaurants and transport. 🤩🇹🇳🤩🇹🇳
Pretty good! The price/performance ratio is very high, and the transportation is very convenient. It costs about ten dinars to get to the airport. There are parks, zoos, and botanical gardens nearby, and the hotel service is also warm and thoughtful.

In Tunis for one night, our manager reserved us to the diplomat.. and what error!!! This pseudo 4 stars is 15 minutes from Carthage Airport. Vesty decor, smell of cracked walls ...a hotel over time. The rooms are a valid copy of the hall and the rest of the hotel, with a 70's brine where everything is refreshed, used...Even the TV channels were in fashion.. analogical!! The only positive note, the kindness of the staff who prepared a late dinner despite the closure of the rest.
I had stayed here a few years back on my regular trips to Tunis. I gave up on them a while ago. The place was old, dirty, living in the 70's. But this time, there was a good offer so I took it up. And I am glad I did, what a change. The rooms have had a complete makeover, light, fresh, plenty of space, modern. The bed is super-comfortable and the staff are so welcoming and friendly. I dined at one of the restaurants and I could easily have been in a very good European restaurant, the service was great and very friendly. I need a good desk space and storage and the rooms have plenty of it. Power points in abundance, including different types for those of us who aren't European. The bathroom was suitable for one person at a time, water pressure wasn't great, in fact, terrible, but that is my only criticism. Over the past 2 years I have struggled with hotels in Tunis, all very sub-standard in the price bracket I want to pay ( c USD 80-120 ), but I have re-discovered Golden TulipEl Mechtel and will now call this home for the foreseeable future, whenever I am in Tunis. Well done folks.
Being engaged to a tunisian girl i fly frequently to tunis from the UK.
Location of the hotel is good, 15 minutes from airport, busy area but i dont think its an area to walk around at late night.
Ive tried loads of the hotels ranging from 2 stars to 4 star hotels in tunis city, hamamet and sousa areas.
This hotel is a small hidden gem.
I was Greeted with a smile when i came around midnight, check in took a minute (unfortunately wasn't given the wifi password on the spot had to ask for it latter on)
The wifi was very fast in the room, i had no issues with connectivity
The owner offered me a complementary bottle of water which i appreciated cause if was thirsty and hungry, they offered to get me some food from a nearby fast food place, so i requested a sandwich which i paid 15 tunisian dinners for ( didnt likee the sandwich much but i appreciated there help 😅😅😅)
The hotel itself is very very nice, not a generic build, had a tunisian look to it with paintings everywhere, they have like a small venue area down in reception
The room was spacious and again nothing generic about it.
The beds were steel frame beds so nothing fancy but the mattress was new and comfortable
Everything was spot on clean
flat tv on the wall and an A/C unit which was functional, all remotes were there in the room.
The rooms were very calm, no noise and most important they WEREN'T PAPER THIN !!!!
No kettle or tea/coffee in the room
2 towels in bathroom, small to medium size, no large ones
Shampoo was available in packets, they supplied 2,
Toiletries available, very clean modern toilet, no leaks
Overall
I loved this hotel, i paid 20 pounds for the night and i am 100% sure i will be coming again soon
Apparently the Dar houses in Tunisia is similar to the Riads in Morocco. What I like about this hotel: 1. Although the place is not as elaborately decorated as some riads in Morocco (e.g. Riad Naya in Marrakesh medina), it is still very charming and tasteful. 2. The place only has 8 rooms (including 2 suites). I had the suite with its own private patio which is totally secluded. 3. The location is also great. It is not on one of the main street of Rue du Pacha but off in a side alley (Rue El Kahia) so it is very quiet. This hotel is Dar Ben Gacem Kahia. On Rue du Pacha there is a Dar Ben Gacem. Could be confusing for some people. 4. Like the riads in Morocco, the roof-top ”garden” was fantastic, giving guests a place to relax outside their rooms. 5. Breakfast was quite good, serving made-to-order omelet, bread, fruit juice, coffee, ricotta cheese, yoghurt, fruit salad etc. 6. The host, Slim, was very professional, friendly and approachable. He made my stay very pleasant. Room to improve: Not much. Just some minor issues, such as: - the bread and croissant could be fresher. If it is too much to serve freshly baked goods in a small hotel, perhaps warming the bread or croissant for a few minutes in the oven would be great - bedside right table drawer opened only 6 inches, some of the window wood panels did not close properly, the guest room's main door handle was very loose (and almost dangling) - breakfast was good but inefficient. My suggestion to the hotel, is switching to a buffet breakfast. Right now, each guest gets a juice, coffee or tea, fresh fruits, bread and pastry, some desserts. Instead of bringing it all in a large tray, the items were brought to the guest one at a time. This was not efficient because one morning I was missing a teaspoon, another morning there was no napkin. Then others got a basket of fruits except me. Another morning another guest was waiting for his coffee for so long that I gave him mine. One morning a few Italian tourists finished the coffee and fruits etc. and left before the staff brought the omelette. I guess they were not told that the omelettes were coming. The staff seemed to be a little frantic to me, running around. A buffet will solve the problem. Also not everyone has the same appetite. This will eliminate food waste. Does the food that a guest couldn't finish, get used again for another guest. If not then there is a lot of food waste. A great hotel should pay close attention to details, and do the minor repairs before they become an issue.
