Avenida da Liberdade
When visiting Lisbon, Portugal, strolling, photographing, shopping and eating on Avenida da Liberdade is a must.
Avenida da Liberdade, which runs through the north-south central axis of Lisbon, was built between 1879 and 1886. It is 1.2 kilometers long and 90 meters wide, and is known as the "Champs Elysees of Lisbon".
Strolling along the avenue, the roadway with 5-10 cars is busy and orderly; the street garden + pedestrian path wider than the roadway is shaded by rows of trees, and the Portuguese-style black and white brick floor is full of charm; the various buildings facing the street compete with each other, and luxury stores of big brands are lined up; sometimes it is a spacious and lively square, and sometimes it is an alley at an intersection; the towering sculptures are telling the history, and the comfortable tourists are enjoying today...
Belém Tower
TtravelwithamelieLocated outside Lisbon, we need to take train to go here. There are two types of train, cheap one without seat number and a more expensive one. I took the cheap one and there were lots of people both tourists and locals. Belem Tower area is free for public (unless you want to go inside the tower) and has park and trees to rest. Some food and drink stalls are also there.
Alfama
AAnonymous UserBe sure to line up early! The door opens at 9:30, and you have to line up at 9:10. There are very few people let in each time, so you often see endless queues. It will be painful in summer! The buildings and scenery inside are still very beautiful, and it is worth queuing for an hour
Lisbon Cathedral
The oldest Catholic church in Lisbon is located halfway up a hill in the old town of Alfama. Behind it is the site of a Roman theater, which is being excavated and repaired. It was well preserved even after the Lisbon earthquake! The stained glass in the church is beautiful!
Santa Justa Lift
Cchinadesk1The Santa Justa Elevator in Lisbon is a vertical elevator, 45 meters high, decorated in neo-Gothic style. Visitors can overlook the city streets from it, making it a tourist attraction. When we went there, it was under maintenance and not open, but the elevator itself is also a scenic spot. There are several other elevators in Lisbon.
Eduardo VII Park
DDarDar BinxWhat a beautiful park to enjoy a great day at. Something for everyone, from the walking paths, huge playground for children, sports and exercise areas to the amazing botanical gardens built in the old quarry. Full of statues, birds and wonderful views. Definitely a great place to explore or just relax on the grass and enjoy the sunshine.
São Jorge Castle
EEkaterina YankovaGood but not great. Located on the highest hill of Lisbon, old style fortifications. If you have no other things on your bucket list then go for it.
Monument to the Discoveries
Mmushroom055The entrance ticket allows you to take the lift to the top floor. From there you still have to climb a few flights of stairs to reach the observation deck. The view is nice but it's not the only place in Lisbon where you can get nice views over the Tagus estuary. The museum at the basement is worth a visit if you're interested in how the landscape in Lisbon changed over the years.
