My wife and I stayed here recently and the location is great. On a good day you can see Mt Cook in all its glory but the hotel itself is average at best. Where you want to stay is the Hermitage but unfortunately it was full the two days we were there. We still spent all of our time in the Hermitage Hotel. They have a really nice restaurant, Wonderful Gift Shop, Museum, Alpine Center etc. our hotel had nothing but shared refrigerators on the second floor. The room was incredibly small, the bed uncomfortable. The desk had very limited hours of operation. There was no reason to be there except to sleep. Parking was OK. The woman at the desk was nice but not that helpful, had no people skills. Again, where you want to stay is the Hermitage. The difference is daylight and dark. I would say it is like a 5 star and a 1 star difference. Be sure and do the ski plane or helicopter tour while in the Mt Cook Village. We had a perfect day! They said they get a day like that 1 out of 200 days, not a cloud in the sky.
Please note that the entire place does not have any rooms that have ensuite bathroom, it doesn’t exist. I remembered checking on this before I booked, stated that there was an ensuite bathroom, that’s why I booked it. But when checking in, the receptionist say that it doesn’t exist, we only got a private room. He mentioned that maybe there was way back before a change in management/renovation, but now there isn’t any more. There are 4 private rooms on the 2nd floor, and 1 shared toilet and shower room for the 4 rooms, but if it’s occupied we can go the 1st floor. The room is quite tiny, with minimal space for luggage. So don’t bring all ur luggages if you are only staying 1-2 nights, pack it into 1 bag would be good, also cuz there’s no lift, you’ll have to carry up your luggage up the stairs.
The room is very large, well-equipped, the bathroom is clean, and the kitchen cabinets at the entrance have a full set of supplies, including plates, bowls, knives and forks, pots and pans, as well as a microwave and induction cooker. The room is heated by the heater, which is a bit dry. When you open the curtains, you can see the snow-capped mountains, which is quite shocking. It is within a 3-minute drive from the Cook Trail and a 5-minute drive from the Glacier Airport. I highly recommend it. The service is not good or bad. The proprietress is very polite. I am not good at speaking, but everyone hesitated and it went smoothly. There is a parking space two meters away from the door of the room. It is pitch black around at night, and it is perfect for stargazing!
It may be a low season for tourism, the restaurant is under renovation and not open. Although it comes with a kitchen, it is not worth paying attention to because there are so many days in the past. After living in, there were only 9 biscuits and 2 bananas to maintain dinner and breakfast for 2 people. A little anxious, a lot of hares, want to catch only the hare to fill the stomach. Of course, there was no success in the end. Other than this, everything else is fine.
