Overall it's not bad, it should be a better motel there. The room is very spacious and you can cook by yourself. The bathroom is also very clean and spacious. The only downside is that the bed is very soft, but most foreigners are like this. The hotel was almost empty because of the epidemic, but it was kept clean. If you have to stop at Greymouth, it is a good choice.
This hotel presents as nothing special, but we had a lovely and comfortable stay. The rooms, bathroom and decor are quite dated, but are immaculately presented. The location is slightly out of the CBD and whilst you can see a supermarket and variety store across the road, there is no (obvious) direct access, so you need a car to get about. The location is quiet, but there is a bit of noise from neighbouring rooms, especially when the shower is running. When we turned off the light, there was a lot of light entering the room and we expected a disturbed night, but we were delighted that sometime around midnight they dimmed considerably so our sleep was quite good. I wish more motels would dim their external lighting as the night draws on. The hosts were attentive and welcoming and we enjoyed some nice interaction with them. This is a motel that's far from perfect, but where the positives far outweigh the negative. We would definitely recommend it and stay there again.
We Stayed 2 nights with no issues at these comfortable and clean accommodations. But due to chronic pain health issues for my husband he was unable to get up and leave for the usual checkout time. This happens occasionally for him and out of his control. I asked for late checkout for 1 pm but was told this was not allowed and this created great problems for bookings in the place. ( which was not full on a monday night) For us to stay till 1 pm just 2 hours later, i would have to pay 130$ for an extra night . There was no interest in our dilemma no half day rate no extended late checkout.. Left with no other choice we paid the 130$ with the intent to leave at one. However as we had paid , we stayed in the room till 4 pm before leaving for home. Headed home to Christchurch feeling bruised and bereft of the usual kiwi understanding and hospitality.

The hotel belongs to the typical Holiday Park. There is a public kitchen, bathroom and shower room. It is a bit cold in winter, but the heating is very good. After the quilt is there, the clerk is now letting us take it. The hygiene can only be said to be acceptable. It’s not very convenient to get the door, but there are children playing, and the children are happy.
I stayed for 2 nights while on business in Greymouth. I had a suite with its own bedroom, and separate lounge/ kitchen and bathroom with shower. The whole place was spotlessly clean and comfortable with all amenities for a relaxing evening after the working day. There is fresh milk provided on arrival and some shortbreads which were delicious. There is free unlimited wifi, a tv in lounge and bedroom (obviously the studios would only have one) and the place was quiet and restful at night. Highly recommended if you need to stay over in Greymouth for work or otherwise.
Arrived at the hotel a little bit late for the check-in, but the reception was very accommodating and still processed for us with a big smile and was very friendly!
Rooms were very clean, complete with AC and heater, towels provided as well.
Laundry avail for use (paid use only and hours apply)
Beds were nice, great amenities! With full kitchen including fridge, stove, microwave and washing sink. Cooking utensils and pots pans avail too.
Wasn't expecting much for a motel but this was actually a really great and comfortable stay!
Short 2 to 5min drive to nearest supermarkets and petrol stations
I have nothing but the highest praise for the incredible service and hospitality we all received at Aalchen Place Hotel. Michelle, the manager, went beyond the call of duty to help us with our transportation challenges. She was unbelievably accommodating and willing to do whatever she could to ensure that our stay was a very pleasant and comfortable one. The beds were so very comfortable with the rooms, themselves, impeccably clean and beautifully presented. Thank you, Michelle, for all you did for us. Lee (one of the 5 ‘mad’ Aussies).
Stayed in this room, excellent bed, comfortable as. Friendly hosts and interesting conversation about history of place. Enjoyed hot coal fire in the living room at night and the use of courtesy bike to get around given limitations with walking. Enjoyed my time here and would definitely stay again.
It is a hotel where I would like to stay next time. The surroundings were quiet. I think the hotel service is good. There was a feeling of cleanliness in the room.
We stayed there for 2 nights in 2007, we couldn't go back that far. Must have been different owners and we stayed in off-peak so it was very quiet. It was clean and our double bed room was comfortable. Great historic building with such awesome interesting themed rooms. It was more than fine for us and reasonably priced compared to possibly finer hotels but this was way more homely, quaint and interesting. I believe the kitchen was as good as any decent backpackers. We weren't disappointed as were not wanting a millionaire accommodation hotel but a warm atmosphere.

Outstanding
AAnonymous UserWhen I arrived in this town, I took a look at this one with the highest rating. It is in the city center, you can go to the New World Supermarket, there is also a gas station opposite, and there is a domino pizza, the location is really good. This motel is really big and quite quiet.
GGuest UserWe booked this place for a one night stay with our children (3 and 6 years) as it was the best recommended available option in Greymouth. It was our daughter‘s 6th Birthday and we informed the Hostel via the booking on their Homepage. So far we were not aware that children under the age of 13 are not welcomed in this house. Fair enough but as we especially mentioned the very special day and we received a conformation, telling us that cancellations for bookings via their Homepage are only possible via their Homepage, it would have been of help being told that this place is not ment for little ones. Telling a 6 year old girl and her Little Brother, that they are not wanted, are not allowed to be visible and hearable directly was actually not the way we would have expected being informed of of a detail that can ne found in the FAQ. Such information should be more visible, this way it felt like beeing unwanted but our money is wanted never the less. The place itself is tidy (the tidies Backpackers we ever stayed at) and clean but full of rules and our 4-bed-Room was located under the corridor where we could hear every step from above.
TTohArrived at the hotel a little bit late for the check-in, but the reception was very accommodating and still processed for us with a big smile and was very friendly!
Rooms were very clean, complete with AC and heater, towels provided as well.

GGuest UserWe arrived at the hotel and had a pang of disappointment. It looks quite austere from the outside. When we entered we were very pleasantly surprised. It is modern, clean and well laid out. We were greeted by Kelly who is absolutely wonderful at her job. She is so enthusiastic and welcoming - the best Kiwi welcome of our road trip so far. She gave us some great recommendations of things to do and places to go in the area. We went to our room and it was huge! Two double beds and a lovely bathroom (and a great shower). It had obviously been refurbished recently to a very good standard. The bed was very comfortable. We were on the top (6th) floor with great views. We had a nightcap in the evening -the bar is well stocked with some great gins. Kelly and Ella chatted with us like old friends and we had a lovely time and found out lots more what the area had to offer....so much so that we booked another night! Another nightcap and another great chat with Kelly and Ella again. We didn't have dinner in the restaurant but breakfast was superb and the coffee outstanding. Great staff, comfortable room and in the middle of town with its own parking.....what more could you ask?

GGuest UserStayed in this room, excellent bed, comfortable as. Friendly hosts and interesting conversation about history of place. Enjoyed hot coal fire in the living room at night and the use of courtesy bike to get around given limitations with walking. Enjoyed my time here and would definitely stay again.
GGuest UserIt was the “no worries” attitude of the owner who made this trip so good. We booked last minute to visit a sick family member and had to bring a small dog as there was no time to book him in a kennel. The owner was so easy to deal with and nothing was an issue (had to call him twice from Christchurch with questions). The room was older style but it was so clean! I will admit that I was nervous booking so quickly and arriving late in the evening (could have been a disaster) but I was pleasantly surprised to find the beds all impeccably made, the bathroom was clean, as was the kitchen. Little bit of road noise as mentioned in other reviews but this place is on the main road also it’s Greymouth and traffic wasn’t constant all night… it’s also just up the road from the hospital and in easy reach of everything you need. I would book again.
GGuest UserAbout 8 minutes walk to town centre ... close to Monteith Brewery and good Indian restaurant ... also a cafes and bars/pubs. The rooms are just what we, a couple of 70 year olds, wanted. The manager is very good. The shower/bathroom was lovely.

The Great Coast Road

Ocean Road was actually built to commemorate the soldiers of World War I. There were many surviving veterans involved in it at the beginning of the establishment, so it was of great significance. The 300-kilometer ocean road, which was built, also attracted many people to visit, where you can see the waves beating the beach.
