Outstanding
GGuest UserFelt cheated. Was told booking includes breakfast when checked-in, but during check-out then they mentioned only 2 adults were free and I have to pay for 2 children (above 6). Also, recommended to upgrade room for bigger size. However in the bigger room, the shower and toilet area is split to the front and back of the room. Suspect that end up the usable space is not much bigger.
GGuest UserThe food quality of the Spanish set dinner and breakfast was excellent and beyond our expectation. All the staff including front desk and restaurant were very friendly and hospitable. The location is convenient and walkable from bus station or to the shops, the rental of bicycles was included in the room rate. Many places are accessible by bicycles and kind of convenient to cycling around. The free flow drinks and snacks was a very kind gesture and face masks were very thoughtful room amenities for the dry weather. I would highly recommend this hotel and look forward to next visit soon.
LlamvyAn incomparable place, Karuizawa, super fun, very good skiing, the entire ski resort and several surrounding hotels belong to the Prince Hotel, Prince West is more convenient, you can actually take the free shuttle bus to the hot springs Ski resorts etc. Very nice experience.
Ccloudy moonI Like the cleanliness of the hotel. Room is spacious. The front desk staff could communicate in English. Good if you drive there. Else, it’s a distance from the train station. St Paul church is just opposite of the hotel. There’s also a Japanese shin nearby. There are good bakery shops nearby for breakfast. We were there on 2 weekdays and there’s not many people and not many shops open. The restaurant next to it serves good pasta and pizza. We had our 2 dinners settled there. Karuizawa is a beautiful place. You may have a morning jog nearby and it’s so serene running around.
AAdamI stayed at this hotel with my wife and two children during a two-night trip to Karuizawa in early February. The hotel is around 100 years old and its claim to fame is that John Lennon has stayed there. The piano that he played on is still in the bar.
Location: The hotel is near Old Ginza Street and around a 15-minutes drive from Karuizawa station. It was not difficult to find, but you must navigate a narrow approach to the hotel which is icy at this time of the year, so you must drive carefully.
Cleaniness: The staff told me that the hotel was only recently and everything was very clean and in good condition.
Service: The receptionist that conducted the check-in was probably the Japanese that spoke the best English that I had encountered on this trip. He spent a lot of time explaining the hotel to our family. The porter was also very helpful and polite. When we asked for extra toothbrushes and slippers for the children, housekeeping was very prompt in delivering them and even brought some children's robes for my sons.
Facilities: The hotel did not have many facilities. There is a small shop, a bar and a french restaurant but not much else. Some rooms had private hot springs in them and they gave us the opportunity to upgrade. Our room, had a small balcony even though we were on the ground floor. It looked onto a wooded area so there was not much to see, especially at night. However, when it snowed the next morning, my kids loved going out and playing in the snow. I was particularly impressed by the breakfast. It was a simple American breakfast very well presented. It was very pleasurable to look out into the inner courtyard with it was snowing.
Overall: I like this hotel as it has a lot of character. It is architecturally attractive and has kept a lot of its charm despite renovation. The staff are very professional and polite. I would stay in this hotel again.
AAnonymous UserNice hotel. Karuizawa Outlet is in a walking distance. But had to take the bus to ski area. The west ski area did not open at the time we stayed. The front staff was not that freindly. No power plug adapter for borrowing. When comparing to the price, it not worth it. The good thing is the location, that’s it.
Hotel breakfast was awesome, the staffs were very nice, much nicer than front staff.
GGuest UserWe had an amazing 2 nights stay here! Located about 5 minutes short walk from the train station, there were a convenience store and small supermarket directly across the hotel.
We weren't expecting much when we booked as the photos look dated and it was a last minute trip but oh mine, we were pleasantly surprised when we checked in. The room was large and although it was the old room, it had a certain charmimg character to it that we love. The bathroom was also big, clean and had a lovely large bathtub. I love the full range of toiletries they provided and was hoping to buy it in Tokyo to bring home but I couldn't.
There was a common area on the second floor where water, juice and coffee were provided and we bought our own sake in the evening and sat there. We spent two peaceful evenings here after dinner and it was lovely.
Our only complaint was the bed was rather soft and the pillows were flat. But we will definitely stay here again when we come back to Karuizawa.
SSinPros:
1. The room is very spacious, with a tatami bed for the third person. It was clean and well-equipped.
2. Convenient and free parking right outside the hotel entrance, although spaces are first-come, first-served.
3. Complimentary rental of umbrellas.
4. The private onsen was enjoyable, especially considering the public onsen at the adjacent building is unsheltered (hence the need for umbrellas).
5. Excellent location near Karuizawa Prince Shopping Plaza and Kyu-Karuizawa Main Street, providing easy access to numerous local shops and eateries.
Cons:
1. The breakfast was quite disappointing considering that this is a 4-star hotel and the other aspects are good. The bread was extremely hard and difficult to tear, and did not seem fresh. The overall variety of food was limited and not particularly appealing.
GGuest UserThe room is small and it is very difficult to open the door and carry luggage. The location is about a 15-minute drive from the station, and there are no convenience stores nearby. What is commendable is that there are ample parking spaces, the hotel staff are friendly, and the breakfast provided is also very good and unique.
堇堇茉Although it is far from the station, it is very convenient to have someone to pick it up by car. In the morning, you will be booked with you to determine the time to go.
The only inconvenience is that there is no supper in my order. There are no convenience stores around.
Other play facilities and hot spring bath facilities are ok
The prices are also very clean. I also arranged a large room for me alone
I ate breakfast at the hotel in the morning and loved waking up in the forest early in the morning.
Reservations must be made in advance (Japanese and English)
Waiting for pick-up at the general parking lot at Nakaruizawa Station, there will be signs on the car
