After a great stay at the Hoshinoya Okinawa last year, we were looking forward to staying at the ”main” resort, which did not disappoint. I love how Hoshinoya takes a completely different approach to luxury than a Four Seasons or an Aman. This is not about excess and opulence. This is about simplicity, discreteness, thoughtfulness and nature. We stayed at one of the water-side villas, which appear to be worth the higher rate than the row of villas farther away. Check-in and reception were a breeze, except for the expected English language gap. There are a few staff members who speak very good English, but overall you can tell some of the staff will struggle. The rooms are gorgeous. High ceilings. Turn on some music and it will echo wonderfully. There is some attention paid to lighting. The sleeping areas are darker. And quieter. The only sound filling the room is the rush of the water. The rooms are extremely clean and you will find yourself tidying up your own clothes just to not mess up the clean/zen vibe of your room. Being able to wear the yukata around the resort and even in nearby areas was great. Next time I will make sure to pack less clothes. We ordered the kaiseki style breakfast and dinner. The breakfast was a bit too much on the veggie side but the dinner was excellent. Pricey, but worth it. More reasonably-priced dining options are available at the nearby Harunire Terrace, which is a 15-minute walk or a 5-minute ride with the resort's free car service. The Meditation Bath facility in the resort was more than enough for me to enjoy the hot springs. It's open to very late and you can check via a web site as to whether the place is crowded or not. My wife ventured out to the larger Tonbo no yu onsen and thoroughly loved it. It won't take you a lot of time but just walking around the resort grounds is amazingly relaxing. The layout does come across as a bit too manicured but still very pleasing both visually and aurally. I didn't want to go too much into the details of the place because part of the wonder of this resort is discovering and marveling at it for the first time yourself. If you can shed the concept of excess and luxury and opulence and are open to a ”very” different approach, then go.
I am very happy to book this traditional Japanese hotel full of warmth. The hotel is very retro and has a sense of historical precipitation. It feels warm and warm when you walk in. It is a very traditional Japanese hotel. Although the alms are a bit dated, the environment is clean and the service staff is enthusiastic. The hotel is conveniently located at the end of the commercial street of the old Karuizawa. The hotel has its own hot spring, but we do n’t have time to soak, but we used the bathrobes and socks in the hotel because we do n’t know how to wear them. After talking to the front desk, they also called an elderly service staff to help We wore a yukata and tied a beautiful bow. We also dressed beautifully to eat their kaiseki dishes, which tasted great, but the girls really enjoyed the set meal, especially wearing kimono and tied It's too tight. Sleeping at night is also very quiet, quiet in the middle of the night, anyway, you will choose to stay next time. In addition, the autumn of Karuizawa is really beautiful!
It is easy to understand because it is close to Karuizawa Station and is located on the main street. However, it is difficult to understand the entrance of the hotel, but I wondered if I should enter from the restaurant. Only standard double rooms are available for dogs. It's pretty narrow. It feels like a stylish business hotel. The bed is comfortable. There is a large dog gauge toilet sheet and a butt wipe. The bathroom and toilet are in the same room, but they are large. I was interested in the toilet. Should I remove the toilet seat when cleaning? The amenities were in a cute cloth bag for two people, but there was no toothbrush in one cloth bag. There are 2 bottles of mineral water in the wine cellar. It's a pity that there is no pot. It would be nice to have a water server that can produce hot water without a pot. There are 2 coin laundry machines. Ice maker, juice and alcohol are sold by themselves. The restaurant is delicious, but the amount of dinner and morning is large, and the contents are covered, so it seems that you will get tired of staying for consecutive nights or using it frequently ... The taste is strong (good compatibility with alcohol) Even for people with small children I was there, but maybe my kids aren't likely to eat it. Dessert also has an adult taste. The restaurant is very cold near the entrance and on the window side and requires a coat. All the staff are kind. It is cheap considering the food and convenience for the price. Especially recommended for those who want to enjoy the whole of Karuizawa and enjoy Spanish cuisine. I want to use it again.

We stayed with four people in a 2LDK room, which was very spacious. The facilities were new and very clean, and the room was well-cleaned, so we had a comfortable stay. One thing that was disappointing was that even though I had already paid in advance, they insisted that I pay on site, even when I showed them my card payment information. I paid once, but still thought something was wrong, so I inquired through the reservation site and received a refund. There may have been a lack of confirmation or some other mistake, but it would be horrifying to think that I would have paid double the amount without noticing. It was very disappointing because the room was so nice.
With stunning architecture by Shigeru Ban (who designed House 1 and 2), this stylish small hotel has interesting spaces filled with contemporary art. My family took 3 rooms in Villa A of House 2 which gave us a private kitchenette and small seating area, with access to a beautiful communal room and library. It's a couple of minutes' walk to House 1 with the gorgeous restaurant that merges the indoor with outdoor. The restaurant offers a good breakfast and a la carte lunches/dinners. We chose the omakase dinner one evening and it was creative and excellent. The staff members are fantastic - friendly and helpful, especially the knowledgeable and wonderful General Manager Ogihara-san who went out of his way to personally take us to the oldest ramen restaurant in Karuizawa and the volcano park. We enjoyed our stay very much. The hotel recently added House 3 which is also stunning. There's quite a bit to do in the area - hikes, waterfall, onsen etc., so we are already planning our next trip. A great escape in the summer from the blazing heat of Tokyo, and I hear it's amazing in the snowy winter too.
The villa is in a very quiet villa group, and the air is very good. From Karuizawa Station, you can take the bus to Yukawa, and it takes less than 10 minutes to get off the bus. Or take the Nakakaruizawa one stop to Nakakaruizawa, and then walk for 17 minutes. This path is not recommended at night because it passes through an unlit alley and a cemetery. The hotel is almost entirely self-service, and you fold the mattresses and quilts yourself. Each room has a bathroom. When taking a bath, it is a public bathhouse. It is not possible for two people to wash together in the bathhouse. It is a bit crowded for three people. The hotel's nearest convenience store is a 10-minute walk away. The 711 here is open from 6 am to 11 pm. The Stone Church is 7 minutes away from the convenience store. The price/performance ratio is pretty good. Bicycles can be rented at the entrance of the hotel. Please confirm with the front desk for details.
Boasting inner courtyard views, Tree Village Karuizawa provides accommodation with balcony, around 18 km from Honmachi Machiyakan. There is a private entrance at the holiday home for the convenience of those who stay. The holiday home features rooms with air conditioning, free private parking and free WiFi. Each unit has a terrace offering garden views, a satellite flat-screen TV, a dining area, a well-fitted kitchen and a private bathroom with bidet, slippers and a hair dryer. A dishwasher, an oven and microwave are also offered, as well as a coffee machine and a kettle. All units have a wardrobe. Usui Pass Railway Heritage Park is 20 km from the holiday home, while Karuizawa Station is 4 km from the property. Matsumoto Airport is 83 km away.
The location is a little difficult to understand, but I think it's not bad because it's quietly built in a quiet area. The room was also very quiet and nice. (I can't hear the gayagaya in the next room at all. The parking lot was full, so it should have been crowded.)
The width of the bed is quite narrow. (Sinner than a normal single. Bed size for long-term care) The bed mattress was good for an inn in this price range.
The room fixtures were also well equipped. (If it's in place so far, I think it's better to display on the homepage that there are such things in the equipment in the room. There are also cheap inns in Karuizawa with quite a few equipment. On the other hand, if it is written properly, I think you don't have to bring unnecessary things!)
There was a malicious trouble. When I went out to the outdoor bath at night and came back, the entrance to the inn was locked and closed outdoors. The front desk was usually unmanned and the front desk had an emergency contact number, so no one answered the phone even if I called that number. It was past 22:00 pm, so I was quite impatient whether I had already come home. When I called the representative phone such as a reservation, someone finally came out and unlocked it. .. I happened to have a cell phone and my cell phone battery remained, so I didn't have to spend the night in the car, but this is a trouble level that I should not do. If other guests at the hotel may accidentally close the key, I think they should at least put on an interphone. (There is also an intercom that does not require wiring and can be installed at a low price.) If you are a customer who cannot drive, at this time of year, it will also lead to freezing death. Isn't it necessary to have a little more sense of crisis?
By the way, the key is usually 24 hours empty (there was no curfew). When I went out, I thought I would check if there was a curfew, but there was no extension phone at the reception, and I had to make an external phone call with my cell phone every time I checked, so I didn't check it because it was troublesome. I regretted that I left I have a memory. .. At least, why not install an extension phone or an intercom instead of letting the staff call at the receptionist use the customer's mobile phone? If a customer accidentally forgets his cell phone at home, it also leads to the fact that he cannot accept the reception. I think it's honest to rely on the operation that depends on the equipment brought by the customer.

GGuest UserThe stay was very satisfactory. The room was insulated and airtight. The privacy of the house was very good. The design was ingenious. The owner provided all the helpful help. The transportation here is very convenient. It is very suitable for driving and it is easy to get a taxi. There is a small path that leads directly from the house to the bird forest. The atmosphere is great.
GGuest UserI like this hotel so much. It is a family villa for business. The operators should be a young couple, who are considerate and polite. The breakfast is also delicious. The only bad thing is that it is a little far away from the main attractions, but this hotel can help rent bicycles for 1,000 yen a day, which is very comfortable.
The staff were very friendly and helpful. The room was clean and comfortable, with all proper amenities. The atmosphere of the whole hotel was cozy, intimate, and quaint, with an interior as one might expect at a country hotel in England. The owner, Chris, very kindly gave us a ride to the train station as we went sightseeing on our first day as well as after we checked out. (Though the walk from Naka-Karuizawa Station isn't too bad if you're going by train; about 15 minutes.) The meals were excellent (breakfast and dinner). There's also a nice garden with lounge chairs where you can relax and take in the greenery. Also, check out the world map in the restaurant which has marked upon it the many countries Chris has visited and lived in, as well as photos from his travels. Another thing we really appreciated was the background music in the restaurant, mostly 60s and 70s British rock, and that the music was always at a low enough volume to allow proper conversation. (Too many places these days just blast the volume on the music.) We would definitely like to stay here again on our next trip to Karuizawa.
AauntieadrieneWe stayed here for 2 nights straight from Narita. It was easy enough to navigate from the station with 2 big suitcases and 2 small children at night. It was relatively close to 2 convenience stores so we could easily stock up on supplies. We booked the family room but I was a bit disappointed that whilst there was a separate tatami area meant for the kids there was no bedding to speak of. Even pillows or blankets. So they squeezed in with us in the beds. Otherwise the room itself was nice and compact but not too cramped due to the additional tatami area. The bath tub was a nice touch and well enjoyed by the kids. The breakfast spread was small but delicious. There was a games time in the evenings where there was sometimes popcorn or other snacks and drinks available. The staff were very helpful and friendly with sightseeing options and bus schedules despite their limited English. We felt very welcomed here.
最最爱小恶魔The price is a bit expensive, and the hotel facilities are a bit old, but the service is very good. I will stay here next time I have the opportunity. The service staff are very enthusiastic and actively helped me heat the rice balls. Praise!
GGrandTour803448In Karuizawa, I usually stay at a hotel in front of the genre, but sometimes I change my intention... and stay here in the Japanese style room. A hotel is a cottage even in front of the genre, so there are some places where the distance to walk skiing is long, but it is convenient because it sends you to the front of the ski center. Also, if you eat at the outlet early in the evening, you will still be in time for free transfer bus time, so you can not walk on the snowy road at night. The restaurant in the hotel is clean and delicious, and lunch is very recommended.
GGuest UserFar from the station, 2,300 yen. The courtyard is beautiful, but the room is small. If you go to check in, you need to bring your own towel toothbrush and pajamas. Arrival time is too early, but let us stay in the room. After arriving at the hotel, the owner said a lot of rules and was overwhelmed. Because there is no breakfast and dinner, I don't want to enter the restaurant for a certain period of time. It may be because I am worried that we don't understand Japanese habits to disturb other guests.
LLingLungThe hotel's location is not far from JR Karuizawa Station. There are multiple parking spaces for self-driving tours. The environment is quiet and tranquil. There is also a hot spring. The price/performance ratio is very high. We arrived early to store our luggage. When we checked in, our luggage had been put in the room. It was very nice.
堇堇茉Although it is far from the station, it is very convenient to have someone to pick it up by car. In the morning, you will be booked with you to determine the time to go.
The only inconvenience is that there is no supper in my order. There are no convenience stores around.
Other play facilities and hot spring bath facilities are ok
The prices are also very clean. I also arranged a large room for me alone
I ate breakfast at the hotel in the morning and loved waking up in the forest early in the morning.
Reservations must be made in advance (Japanese and English)
Waiting for pick-up at the general parking lot at Nakaruizawa Station, there will be signs on the car
BBritinBangkokWe visited Karuizawa in the winter and stayed at the Shinonome Salon. It's only about a 10 minute brisk walk from the Karuizawa shinkansen station along pavements so easy to pull your luggage along with you. The name is confusing but I guess they wanted to call their hotel a saloon but ended up spelling it like a hairdresser. Check-in was smooth and without incident. We arrived late in the evening and although only one person was on duty they did expect us. Our booking.com form was printed out ready for our check-in. There are no elevators in this hotel so you have to lug your baggage up the stairs yourself. The old man who I think is resident there tried to help but he struggled with our heavy suitcases. If you're not strong and your baggage is heavy you might want to request the bottom floor. One annoying feature of the hotel is that you cannot wear your own shoes past the lobby area. You need to switch out of your shoes and place them in the provided lockers and wear the provided slip-ons instead. Annoying but I can live with it. The rooms are small and the toilet tiny. But they are clean. No rollaways for a third person possible in this room. The two beds were small singles. I notice chips on all furniture in the room probably caused by suitcases hitting the furniture given the tight space available. While not pretty to look at it didn't take away from the cleanliness in general. The toilet has a japanese style bathtub which is deep and requires a big step over. Anyone with disabilities might find it a bit difficult. I guess the tub acts as a makeshift onsen. The room includes amenities but I recommend you bring your own soap and shampoo. Hotel amenities in Japan are micro sized and barely adequate and are just a token gesture. The room has a heater and kept the room warm but all the switches were in Japanese. I did figure out how to adjust the temperature eventually. Breakfast was good and adequate even for the largest of appetites and I recommend you include this in your stay. My android phone was able to pick up Wifi in the room but not Apple iPhones. They did say at check-in Wifi was available only in the lobby area. Overall a decent comfortable stay and will consider staying again in future.
