Find the Cheap Gardone Riviera Hotels

Our stay was for 9 nights. The hotel was beautiful, stylish and very clean. Staff were very polite and friendly. Our bedroom was small. We paid for a room with a view of the lake. The ensuite was the smallest we have ever had in an hotel and really was not of a 5 Star standard. The view was amazing. We could swim in the lake as it was so clear and clean. Because of its location, it’s better if you have a car if you want to visit surrounding towns. We didn’t, so we hired a driver and a car on two occasions and a boat and a skipper to sail to Sirmione on one day. The breakfast offered a huge choice of items but the seven baskets of different bread rolls, were almost too hard to eat. . The continental breakfast choices were limited and often the croissants and pastries were over baked. There was a large assortment of very sweet cakes and biscuits. We found the cooked breakfast was disappointing with the bacon severely overcooked! We ate dinner a few times on the terrace. It was a great space with lovely views.

We had a lovely stay at this hotel. Positive points -Location. The views from the hotel are stunning. It’s approx 20 minute walk from the nearest town with bars and cafes and there are some lovely ones to choose from. Staff. All of the staff were friendly, helpful and did there best to make our stay as happy as possible. The lady at reception was especially helpful arranging us taxis and an excursion. Evening dinner. We had one evening meal at the restaurant on the terrace and it will be a fantastic memory. Really fantastic service with crepes made at the table and meat carved. The beef main course was the best we have had anywhere. A room with a balancing overlooking lake Garda is a superb place to be. Things that could be better. The breakfast offering was a little disappointing. Service again was fantastic but have had better food option elsewhere. It is a steep walk up to the hotel and the steps are not particularly well maintained. Overall though a fantastic stay, made all the better by the helpful staff.

Upon our arrival we were led to a room which was stinking badly of mould. I started looking for the source and soon discovered that all walls were mouldy, some of the biggest patches covered with furniture or bed. We were shocked and immediately asked the receptionist to change our room as being in these conditions is extremely hazardous to health, even for people who are not allergic to mould (my partner is). We couldn't believe that a 4 star hotel or any kind of hotel would have rooms like that and show them to guests. These rooms should be completely torn down/renovated. Luckily we got a different room, the situation there was better. However, it was still not a 4 star hotel experience: hotel and the room smells really bad (probably old irrigation systems and old furnishings). Bathroom doors wasn't closing (would open by itself, really romantic). To get to bed you would need to climb wooden stairs which were squeeky and loud, which doesn't work for nightly toilet visits. The floors were very low so you couldn't walk straight up in the bedroom. The roof window had a broken ”curtain” so it was always closed, hence it was always dark. There was no net from insects on the window, so you would always have some mosquitos in the room or other bugs. It wasn't as quiet as expected, as the hotel is right by the busy road so you would need earplugs to sleep with a window open at night. Breakfast: good for people who eat sweet breakfast. Not so good for people who eat continental breakfast, because there was almost no choice. You had bacon, watery scrambled eggs, watery boiled eggs and some tomatoes, lettuce, cucumber, ham. It would have been satisfactory had the eggs were done properly, but they were always undercooked/almost raw, so as I didn't want to get ill I chose not to eat that and survived on veggies. Staff was nice and friendly, the view from the window absolutely beautiful, but that does not really recompensate for the overall poor state of the facilities.

After over 30 years and at least 10 visits, this is our last trip to the Grand old lady of Gardone before she gets a £40m+ refit from her new owners. She will re-open in Spring 2026 and we will certainly come back to see her. Although we may be forced to stay elsewhere if the prices rise dramatically as they probably will. At the moment the 25% discount compensates for the slight and inevitable reduction in service, especially evening dinner which is now a relatively restricted buffet rather than the lavish silver service of old. Everything else tho remains the same high quality and the mainly young temporary staff do a good job of replacing the experienced old retainers, now mostly retired. Catch a last chance to see the beautiful Grsnd in its lovely setting before it's too late
