I just can't say enough about how much we enjoyed our stay at Hotel Monte Rosa. We stayed in their newly renovated Junior Suite and absolutely loved it. The room was extremely functional, spacious, immaculate, with generous storage and a sparkling, luxurious bathroom. It was so nice to have BOTH a shower and a bathtub! Spend the extra $ if you can and book one of the new suites, it's worth it. Our pleasure didn't end with the room. The staff was wonderful and helpful in every way providing good recommendations for planning day trips, etc. The breakfasts are something I will have fond memories of. Each morning the lead gentleman who ran the breakfast remembered our beverage order -- a cappuccino for me and diet coke for my husband. Also, make sure to have the fresh, creamy yogurt (from a local dairy/farmer consortium). It was out of this world, and now home, is making it very difficult to go back to Chobani! We were there in mid-May and therefore it was a bit early for the pool but it looked really nice and all the patio furniture and cushions, etc were in excellent condition. I could certainly imagine lounging poolside with an Aperol spritz and being quite content! If you are coming by train, the hotel is an easy walk even with luggage. And the town of Chiavari itself was an absolute joy. If I had one slight recommendation for the hotel it would be to perhaps add SMART TV accessibility. That would be the icing on the cake. Thanks, Monte Rosa, for making my vacation so special and memorable.
We had a wonderful room with a deck and Mediterranean Sea view. The bed was great, shower great, breakfast great, Aperol Spritz great, etc. It's about a 15-20 min. walk along the Mediterranean Sea passeggiata to Chiavari train station, center of town is about another 5 minutes. Ok, so the train track is in front of the hotel, but try for a room on the back side by the Sea or pool. The place was renovated from pure decay to flourishing hotel. Pictures though out the hotel. Chiavari is a great town. Eat focaccia and pesto every day when in this region (Liguria.)

Hotel Italia e Lido offers an excellent, central location; comfortable rooms with great views; and a large, well balanced breakfast buffet served in a lovely setting. Our room, while not large, had a very comfortable king bed and a small balcony with a view of Rapallo's lungomare, its castle, the Gulf of Tigullio and some great sunsets. The room rate, while not inexpensive, was fair and reasonable. We swam in the Gulf from the little beach between the hotel and the castle and walked virtually anywhere we wanted to go in Rapallo within 15 to 20 minutes at the most. A memorable experience in a place we hope to visit again.
The word that kept occurring to me about this hotel is ”adequate”. By that I mean that it provided us with what we wanted but without any flair at all. The reception staff were polite but distant and the hotel was clean and functional but somewhat dated. Our room was perfect, with a balcony and side sea view, and the staff at breakfast were wonderful, probably the best asset of the hotel. However, the dinner menu at the restaurant was limited and not very adventurous. We ate there just once. I had two experiences that disappointed and set the tone for our stay. On the night we arrived, after a somewhat unappetising meal, I ordered a beer at the bar and was told to sit and it would be brought to me. When the waiter came, I gave him €10 and waited for him to return with some change. He never arrived. A very expensive beer. Needless to say, I never went to the bar again. Later in the stay, we decided we would like to have a swim in the rooftop pool. We were informed that there was a €5 charge to hire a towel. This may be common practice in Italy, but I have never found it to be the case in any other hotel I have ever stayed in. I declined, bought a cheap towel in a nearby shop and enjoyed my swim. It may be common practice in Italy to charge for access to the beach, but I had hoped there might be a reduction or some other concession for hotel guests. Again, another facility we never tried, preferring instead to visit beaches with no charge. Overall, as already mentioned, I found the hotel to be adequate, without being wonderful. I'm not sure it deserves all 4 of its stars.
Only four or five minutes walk from the railway station with wheeled baggage and very easy to find, it is also only a couple of minutes from the beach area as well as numerous restaurants and bars, as well as the tourist ferry to Portofino and Santa Mergherita Ligure. The only downside at time of writing with regards location is the construction work going on right outside the hotel, however it didn't really cause much of an issue with regards noise or dust. Check-in and out were quick and easy and done with a smile. The double room we had was a fair size with a fridge, shower in a bathtub, comfortable bed and pillows, good wifi, a safety-deposit box and air-conditioning. Plenty of space. But no kettle with instant coffee/tea like most 4 start hotels I have been in when in Italy. Breakfast is strange. Advertised from 07:00 to 10:00. If you arrive at 07:00 there is cereal, yoghurt, fresh fruit, croissants, pastries as well as two types of cold meat and cheese as well as bread and hard boiled eggs. But sitting on the counter is a big metal food retainer of the sort used to keep scrambled eggs, bacon/sausages normally......but nothing in it except hot water and a spoon in front of it. I asked and was told that they don't fill it until 08:00. Don't know what with but presumably bacon, sausages, scrambled egg or similar. So if o go for breakfast at 07:00 to 08:00 you won't get any of that, only if you from 08:00 onwards. I felt like returning for a second breakfast at 08:00 !! Rather strange way of ding things, advertising breakfast at 07:00 but the full breakfast buffet is not actually available until 08:00. And that is my only gripe. Otherwise, a decent hotel although by no means cheap and yet not luxurious.
