This is a large, well-run resort with facilities and a restaurant, 4km outside the city. The sprawling, manicured grounds with a T-shaped pool bordered by large palm trees is the main attraction. Parasols to shelter from the intense sun are lacking. Retreat to the veranda of your villa before you get sunburnt. In September 2023, our villa 214 had one double and a single bed, a television, good air-conditioning, intermittent Wi-Fi reception, a refrigerator and a semi-open-air hot shower. As always in Indonesia, hotel cleaning and maintenance was basic. Check your bed first. Continental and Indonesian breakfast is served. The restaurant is a bit pricey as it has no competition and serves unremarkable food, such as the sirloin steak (Rp90K). Kalibaru must be the next best Muslim town after Mecca. Imams see their duty to call their own congregation to prayer five times a day as a struggle for survival. Their competition is cut-throat. From the call before dawn, megaphones surpass other megaphones in volume and duration, not in minutes but in hours, sounding like migrating wolves in the forest. Even false-singing imams and children are called into action to call Muslims to prayer far beyond the borders of the city of Kalibaru. Use your earplugs. Kalibaru is a good resort outside the city, but not beyond the reach of imams.

Voor twee dagen een tussenstop op Oost-Java, voordat we oversteken naar Bali. Gearriveerd in Kalibaru .. onze verblijfplaats het ”Margot Utomo Eco Resort”. Margot Utomo is niet de naam van de eigenares, maar betekent zoiets als grote poort. Dit resort is omstreeks 1975 gebouwd door een plantage-eigenaar in een periode van malaise in de landbouwsector. Met het resort wilde hij zijn risico's spreiden. Op enkele kilometers afstand is een t****e resort van dezelfde onderneming. Het resort waar wij logeerden heeft een aantrekkelijk gebouwde lobby met zitgelegenheid. Daartegenover een mooi open paviljoen, met een dak dat rust op grote kolommen. Wij aten hier uitstekend, ontbijt, lunch en diner. Linnen tafelkleed, linnen servetten .. kom er eens voor in de tropen. Groot zwembad. Geschakelde bungalows, elk met waranda en zitje. Ruime hoge kamer, eenvoudige badkamer met alles erin dat nodig is. Uitstekend werkende wifi in lobby, bungelows en restaurant. De tuinen, of liever het park, is prachtig en wordt goed onderhouden. Als je wat zit te luieren op de waranda waan je je in een Indische roman van Couperus. Buiten het resort enkele moskeeën .. de meerdere oproepen tot het gebed zijn goed hoorbaar. Wij vonden het helemaal niet storend. Je bent tenslotte van rekening te gast is het land met de grootste moslimbevolking ter wereld. Wat een fijne plek .. Margot Utomo Eco Resort!

Restaurant is not good for foreigners, clean rooms, free wifi, free parking, in general it’s an okay place but restaurant has bad service and bad food and overpriced as well I really regret to go to restaurant
