Nice, comfortable and very friendly hotel. Huge double bed. All rooms are very clean. A car park is very close to the hotel ( walk out of the hotel door, across the road and your in the carpark.
I have just returned from a 3 night stay over last weekend. Check in was fine, staff prompt, courteous and very polite. The room was a single on the second floor and i was very impressed with the decor and layout. The room was spotless and maintained by housekeeping that way throughout my stay. It had a fridge, which was a godsend, kettle, complimentary tea and coffee and a nice flat screen above the bed. It did get hot due to the warm weather, unfortunately, you couldn't open the window's for fresh air more than an inch and that needs correcting. although there was a fan but its never the same as fresh air. The bed was very comfortable. I ate out at nights, so, i cannot judge the restaurant and breakfast was at £15 and included a lot of other peoples brats, so that was a no no for me and i gave it a swerve. The hotel itself is very grand and you can tell that a lot of money has been invested in it and still is and it is good to see. Furthermore, every time I came in to the hotel and went in or out of my room the staff always greeted me and wished me a good day or good evening. I have travelled to hotels all over the world and I cannot understand some of the negative reviews on here regarding this hotel. its nonsense from what i can see. So, My verdict : Highly recommended and I would certainly stay here again.

The word “quality” applies to the whole experience. We stayed in Room 2 in Somerset House. It was a lovely, large, tastefully decorated room and we were lucky enough to get an off road parking space next to it. The food was excellent, both the breakfast (I particularly liked the Avocado Smash), and Dinner, which we were lucky enough to be able to have outside in the garden. My only suggestion would be to make the offering easier to understand on the website. There are several different buildings/rooms to choose from, mostly called Florence something or other, and it took a long phone call with the excellent Ellie, to work out what was best for me. Without her friendly and knowledgable help I couldn’t have done that. The irony is that after I’d booked I received an email giving me lots of useful information, including a site map, that would have been very useful when booking.
I booked this from other recommendations - and can agree its a really lovely hotel. I booked it to go and see my son who is Portsmouth Uni. It was his birthday, so I organised for us to have the Sunday and Sunday evening. Its part of a group of hotels in a small radius of each other. Parking was ok, as I managed to get a spot in their car park. Room was great - very spacious. Very clean and bed very comfortable. No noise at all from the road or other residents. We had a great evening at the local gastro pub (Florence Arms) - definitely go there. I needed to work on the Monday - and they allowed me to use the dining room at no expense... that is true customer service and that personal touch... well done! Highly recommended...
Clean marble steps up to the front door; these will be very slippery when wet. Clean reception area with what looked like a bar area, although it was not manned at all. I checked in with ease, given two cards for the room door, one of these is used to put into the slot on the wall next to the door to activate the electricity. No food served on site. If you want breakfast you have to purchase a ticket for £12.95 from reception then take it to the Farm Kitchen approximately 5 minutes walk away. If you want to travel out of the local area there is direct access to the local taxi just by pressing a button on reception and a taxi appears minutes later. I was given room 9, on the second floor, three flights of stairs, no lift. It has a threshold step that I found coming out of the room. Looking at other rooms it appears to be the only one that has the step. The room very basic, and clean. There is a single bed, the mattress is very hard, and a shelf with the refreshments tray on it. There is no plug socket nearby so I had to put the kettle on the table next to the bed to use the plug socket there. The front door is locked at 23:00 hours (11pm), so your room key is the front door key too.
We stayed here for two nights to visit the historic dockyard before moving onto the Isle if Wight, we booked it through Booking dot com. We had a luxury room on the ground floor which had just been finished. First I'd like to mention the staff and service; from checking in to checking out the staff we interacted with were polite, very helpful and friendly, nothing seemed to be too much trouble. Breakfast service was good with a wide selection to choose form, hot food is cooked to order so not particularly quick when busy but still far superior to a buffet style. Our room, Gracious, is on the ground floor at the front of the property, our initial concerns about road noise and being next to the hotel entrance were happily unfounded. The ensuite bathroom is huge, with a spa bath at one end and a double shower enclosure at the other. The bed is large, probably super king-size?, and comfortable, there is a small dressing table and wardrobe and a soft chair. Everything was spotlessly clean. We had no complaints at all but there a few things that management may want to consider going forward; there is a large flat screen smart tv mounted on the wall above the dressing table which makes it difficult to watch from the bed being at 90° to the wall. There was an issue getting a reliable service on the TV which staff tried to resolve during our stay; there was also an intermittent issue with the WiFi dropping in and out. We found the shower water pressure on the low side but forgot to mention this before we left. Location is good, 5 minute walk to the nearest restaraunts on Albert Road or a 10 minute bus ride into Portsmouths Gunwharf Quay, the bus stops right outside the hotel. We would definitely stay again
