Find the Cheap Mid Devon District Hotels

This is a practical and well located hotel in the beautiful county of Devon. Without question, the staff are the hotel’s best asset, very friendly and helpful. I would go as far as to say they are exceptional.. The rooms are comfortable and the beds ensure a good night sleep. Breakfast is more than adequate, but the evening food offering was somewhat disappointing, although it wasn’t bad either. The most negative aspect of this hotel was the poor in-room cleanliness, the wet areas particularly behind the toilet were dirty and there was dust and cobwebs behind the bed. Further, the hotels ‘accessible’rooms are not really practical for wheelchair users. ….They are usable/manageable but not without some difficultiesz In summary, the hotel is probably worth 3.5 out of 5, if management were to improve the cleanliness of this hotel it would definitely score better. Finally, we would like to thank all the staff for making our stay enjoyable!

Another stay at this homely guest house. This time for our visit, we had room 3, to be put in a room with a four poster bed ( very comfortable) . Large airy room, good sized bathroom with enclosed shower cubicle. Because it was at the rear of the property, it was extremely quiet, so a good night's sleep was secured. Breakfast as on previous visits, was first rate with local products and homemade sausages and jams. The owners, Chris and Sue Holiday, were the perfect hosts and nothing was too much trouble. Situated within a few minutes walk to the town centre, and with parking available either outside, or in a private carpark at the rear, perfect.

Superb communication from the owners prior to arrival included comprehensive directions avoiding the single track road. This was very much appreciated. The cottage was straightforward to find and we were greeted as soon as we arrived. Parking was easy and plentiful. Our room was the “Garden Room” which was the end room of an annex. The views out the window were fabulous. The room was clean, large and extremely warm and comfortable. We had everything we needed. The bed was very comfortable. Breakfast was in the main house and was everything you expect at a B & B and was first rate. A very pleasant stop over and good value for money. I would recommend.

We have been visiting The Fishermans Cot for many, many years, both eating and staying there at the hotel. It is in a superb & stunning location but it is now resting on its laurel's and has really become rundown. What on earth is Marsden Inns (the owners) doing in allowing this place go so downhill? It obviously lacks investment and a good manager. As soon as we arrived the place looked neglected and dirty. There were buckets on the main bar collecting drips from a leaking ceiling - not a good first impression. The bar was also cluttered with full dishwasher trays that remained there for the duration of our stay. The place was busy but I guess it was more passing trade because I cannot image them having any regular repeat, local trade. The menu is very mush standard 'Brakes” pub grub with no presentation or thrills. I had the burger, with bacon & cheese, despite asking for crispy bacon it came very rare, in fact one of the burgers was almost red raw in the middle. I mentioned to the waitress the coleslaw look stale and dried out and she relied 'oh thats what it looks like with the mayonnaise.' It was dried out and tasteless and I didn't eat it - the waitress didn't comment when she collected my plate. Really, she should have apologised and given me a fresh pot but by that stage I realised the two young staff on duty were obviously under pressure and either didn't care or couldn't be bothered. I really wished I had checked the food hygiene rating before I had eaten there. The whole place had a sticky, dirty feel and the damp in the ladies toilets had to be seen to be believed. The owners, Marstons Inns should be ashamed of themselves for letting this Devon landmark be so badly managed and fall into such disrepair. We love this place and really hope Marstons invest to turn it back to its past glory - both the building and service. Until they do, we definitely won't be returning.
