This is a delightful venue for a relaxed lunch. There is an extensive and attractive outdoor terrace but we thought we would be pushing it a bit on a late October day, despite the sunshine, so ventured indoors. We were warmly welcomed by a cheerful lady called Barbra who, together with a pretty young waitress, looked after us extremely well. The food was fresh and delicious; the accompanying chips were the best I have had in a very long time. It is unusual to find such efficient and professional service these days and we left with a warm glow for a stroll along the adjoining beach. We look forward to returning soon. Thank you Barbra, you are a great ambassador for the Relais, Cooden Beach.
Lipstick and rouge. On initial checkin, it looked ok. But we first noticed a spider, then lots of spider webs on one light. After removing the spider, we figured the bed was a little lumpy but nothing major. First night was initially quiet until the flat above came back. You can hear everything above. Walking around like you were in the basement of a farm house, voices… everything. So second night came back, found two very large spiders on the walls (talking full grown half a baseball sized spiders) killed them. Then put in ear plugs to sleep for the night. Several times woken by the loud banging of what i think was the opening and closing of doors. Though im not sure, then, after being unable to get back to sleep, removed the ear plugs to hear snoring from the room above. For the price paid, expected far more from this property. If those are not issues for you, then your good. Otherwise, you might want to go elsewhere. It was located in the heart of the town…
The outside of the hotel is very scruffy, but this is because it is in the process of being refurbished. The rooms themselves were excellent, clean , modern (although the see through toilet door is a bit kinky in room 4.)
Although being warned of the step inside the passageway to room 4 my wife tripped up it and the light needs improving or warning tape put on the step.
We had to bring the date forward of our visit due to the impending death of a near relative and was very disappointed in having to pay a surcharge of £48.00 per room for the convenience of doing this although we believe the hotel did not have any reservations for these rooms, so could have waived the surcharge.
We did not have occasion to eat at the hotel excepting for breakfast which was excellent.

The reviews we read before our visit meant we were keeping an open mind. Good customer service before arrival put us in the right mood as this was the start of a celebration trip. The car park at St Benedict is very small but there was plenty of street parking and it looked like a safe area, which it proved to be. The Victorian feel starts from the moment you ring the door bell and a warm welcome from Alexandr. We were checked in quickly and shown to Mr Parry's room, the only en-suite room here. We were then offered, and accepted, tea and cake in the garden. This was a quality experience that immediately had us relaxed. The house is crammed full of Victorian artefacts and they are fascinating. Much of it is religious in content and reflects the Orthadox faith followed by the hosts. Religion is not forced upon you but they do offer good tips, we were told that Ramsgate at the end of our trip had an excellent church to visit and they were right. It was nice to have time away from the TV and it was really nice having the radio on at breakfast. Breakfast is ordered the previous evening and time you want it stated. It is of very good quality and plentiful. All in all, a great place to stay, with excellent hosts and plenty to look at around the house. The main town is not too far away but the area is very hilly. Many thanks to Paul and Alexandr for making the start of our trip so special and memorable for all the right reasons.
The sea view room has a very good view and has a small attic. The price is really high, go out to the beach, the nearby restaurants are good! The boyfriend said that the first time in the UK, it was so cheap to live in such a big room. The room is old, but to be honest, all buildings in the UK are like this, and they are hundreds of years old.
This hotel is definitely worth a stay. The rooms were very clean with lovely comfy beds. I personally slept like a log. The breakfast was amazing and the staff were very friendly. I will definitely stay there again. I stayed with my wife and friends for three nights and nobody had any complaints.
