VIEW: I booked a Superior Privilege room looking out over Le Havre's Bassin and it was money well-spent for the view that was both interesting and relaxing. At night, the bridge over the Bassin was illuminated, with the sunflower yellow and turquoise of Ukraine's flag alternating on Bastille Day with France's tricolore of blue, white and red. The effects looked magnificent reflected in the water. ROOM: A vestibule along which was a luggage rack and plenty of wardrobe space led to the well-appointed room with subtly luxurious finshes. Big bathroom, good shower, vanity with plenty of room for toiletries and a completely separate loo. SERVICE: Welcoming and helpful throughout. BREAKFAST: Julie, a quietly engaging, ever-smiling young woman who oversaw the beautifully-presented buffet most mornings made not only my day, but my stay, as she helped me with my fractured French (and I reciprocated by adding to her English).
