Palace of the Dukes and States of Burgundy
知知.识分子The first permanent collection of the Dijon Museum of Fine Arts comes from the Dijon School of Painting. In 1775, the school established its own "Rome Scholarship". Every year, the school selects a student from the painting class and a student from the sculpture class to study in the Eternal City, Rome. In return, the students must provide the school with a copy of a painting or sculpture by a master before the end of four years of study. For this purpose, the east wing of the Ducal Palace was added in the 1780s to house these works from Italy and other places.
In this neoclassical exhibition hall, the "Statue Hall", there are copies such as "Borghese Gladiators", "Apollo of Belvedere", and "Venus of Medici".
Looking up, it is the ceiling painting of Pierre Paul Prud’hon, a scholar of the "Rome Scholarship" in 1784. At that time, the Burgundy Parliament was ambitious to copy the "Triumph of Divine Providence" in the Barberini Palace in Rome.
