Where to start? Our second time at the Bridgge Hotel; the first time was in June 2022 to arrive at this, four-star Hotel. We met a gentleman at the check-in with ripped jeans, and our first impression was underwhelming. Furthermore, the hotel staff enjoyed drinking at the bar and hotel terrace during working hours. This is not what we would expect at a four-star hotel which prides itself on excellence and aims to sell you an exclusive experience. Entering our first room, we inspected the on-suite and found urine stains on the toilet. They were so kind to change the room and in the second room, the same story, plus used toilet paper in the bathroom bin and hair all over the room. The bed sheets are of poor quality and very scratchy. Overall, not that great of an experience. Asking if we could still have dinner, the receptionist informed us that the Kitchen closes at 10 pm, and we should not be later than 9:45 pm. We arrived at 9:40 pm and were denied a table by Mr Testarossa, who seemed to be the head waiter and enjoyed that we came for dinner. The Kitchen is closed. Of course, this was not what we would expect. Sharing this with the receptionist, he did not seem to care much. The head bartender attended to us and calmed the situation. He made sure we got some bites, thank you. However, speaking the following day to the Hotel Manager, Roberto Verdugo, he was apologetic and understanding and did his best to solve the problems. Now we thought we give this Hotel a second chance, and to our surprise, we did not only find urine stains on the toilet but also poop. Moreover, little rests of toilet paper were all over the room floor and wine stains. As they do not have telephones in their rooms, I had to go back to the reception desk and ask for the Manager. However, he was not in anymore, and a gentleman Mr Hamza Ceri came up to me posing as the housekeeping manager. I explained and showed him the pictures I took, and he started to look for excuses, e.g. holiday season etc. I told him this was the second stay and the same issues. He immediately insisted on going into the room and inspecting the room, which is excellent quick action. However, I explained to him that we needed to wait a min because my wife was getting ready. Once she is down, he could go to the room and inspect this by himself. At that stage, he was getting very impatient and rude. I told him that I did not wish to speak to him any further and would like to talk to the Manager in the morning. At that stage, he started to be abusive, threatening to kick us out of the Hotel if he could not see the room immediately. Calling the police, shouting at me and commenting like you want the room for free. I noticed a CCTV camera above the reception and told him it was fine, let's have a look at the CCTV footage, and his tune changed immediately. Meine Familie hat immer im Hotel Haus Hildegard übernachtet, wenn sie Verwandte in der Gegend besuchte, und ich freue mich, sagen zu können, dass sich die Standards seit unserem letzten Besuch vor 16 Jahren nicht verschlechtert haben. Es gibt ausreichend Parkplätze neben und vor dem Hotel. Die Rezeption war bei unserer Ankunft geschlossen, aber es war einfach anzurufen und den Code für den Schlüsselkasten zu bekommen. Alle Mitarbeiter waren sehr freundlich und haben meine schlechten Deutschkenntnisse gut ertragen! Das Frühstück war in Buffetform und es gab immer eine große Auswahl an Brötchen, Fleisch und Käse. Der Kaffee war besonders gut. Das Hotel wurde sehr sauber gehalten - das einzig Negative, was ich sagen konnte, war, dass der Aschenbecher auf unserem Balkon nicht geleert wurde. Das Zimmer selbst war geräumig für zwei Personen und eine gelungene Mischung aus Moderne und Rustikalem. Es gab genügend Ladepunkte, darunter einen Adapter in der Schreibtischschublade – und zwei der Steckdosen ermöglichten auch das Laden über USB. Die Betten waren sehr bequem, obwohl die Kissen recht weich waren. Ich würde auf jeden Fall wieder hier übernachten, wenn ich in der Gegend wäre. Vielen Dank! -- -- My family have always stayed at Hotel Haus Hildegard when visiting relatives in the area and I am pleased to say that standards have not deteriorated since our last visit 16 years ago. The hotel is ideally situated just off the motorway near Brüggen, and there are a number of supermarkets and restaurants nearby. There is plenty of parking space next to and in front of the hotel. Reception was closed when we arrived but it was easy to call and get the code for the key box. Frau Bereths was very helpful and gave plenty of information to ensure we were happy with our stay. All the employees were very friendly and put up with my poor knowledge of German very well! Breakfast was buffet style and there was always a large selection of rolls, meat and cheese. The coffee was particularly good. The hotel was kept very clean - the only negative thing I could say was that the ashtray on our balcony was not emptied. The room itself was spacious for two people and a nice mix of modern and rustic. There were plenty of charging points, including an adapter in the desk drawer - and two of the sockets were enabled for USB charging. The beds were very comfortable, although the pillows were quite soft. The TV does only show German language channels, but a number of them showed dubbed UK/US TV Shows. I would definitely stay here again if I were in the area.
