One night stay in an older style motel complex but functional. Complex appeared rather full which is always good to see, and we were upgraded to an upstairs room which was spacious. Stairs leading up were very steep and tread depth too small. The bottom of railing could have done with a clean from accumulated bird droppings. Free wifi always a bonus. Is close to the harbour entrance to watch sunrise / sunset and in walking distance to the surf club for a nice breakfast and coffee. Its a 10-15 minute stroll to the centre of Devonport for an evening meal. A list of recommended close by restaurants provided by owner was appreciated. Note older Tripadvisor reviews indicate onsite restaurant - this is now closed, but we were aware of this before booking.
Greatly enjoyed my stay here, and will stay here the next time I am in Devonport, no question! Pat and Adrian are such warm and welcoming hosts, and I was very pleased by the lack of noise from the other rooms. My room was clean and comfortable, and although the bathroom layout was slightly less functional than maybe I wanted, I had no major issues at all. Highly recommend!
In the motel, you can park at the door of your room. The location of the hotel is easier to find. Locate a small bar, enter and ask to check in. It’s good if you want to drink two glasses. The room was clean and tidy, the curtains were blinds, and the sun came out quite light. The motel is generally soundproofed, and it can be a bit noisy to hear other guests' cars driving close in the middle of the night. Most importantly, the price is cheap.

It should be the first customer to comment on the hotel in Chinese. Overall, the hotel is very good, the location is in the downtown area, we are sitting on the spirit to Devonport, the car rental port can be seen in the hotel for 10 minutes, the hotel has its own The parking lot, the room is large, very beautiful, the special silver tableware and crystal tableware are very beautiful in the large glass display cabinet, the hygiene is very good, the bathroom is very clean, Devonport has no attractions, if you rent a car, you can go to the seaside. The turn is very comfortable.
There is not a lot of choice when looking for a place to stay in Devonport - so our key criteria was being within walking distance of the town centre and having free on-site car parking. First impressions of the hotel when we walked in was that it was very dated and in need of a major renovation - there were obviously some areas which had been refurbished such as the front reception but most of the areas need a significant overhaul. Our room was downstairs on the ground floor and walking down the stairs it felt like we were going down to the basement - the carpets needed replacement and the walls repainting. The room itself, a family room was very spacious for just two people - had plenty of storage space, decent work desk, large key sized bed, decent working a/c, though the Wi-Fi was slow with limited bandwidth. Even though the decor in the room was tired and worn, the bathroom had been refurbished the bed was relatively new (nice plush mattress and clean bed linen). The room overlooked the rear car parking area, which meant I could keep a check on the car, not that I was expecting a view given the relatively cheap room rate ($110/night as opposed to $176/night). The room however was relatively dark, with only a single window. We took advantage of the QR code room service for our breakfast option, due to its connivence - the food was alright (not amazing) and on occasions was cold/warm rather than hot. The timing of housekeeping was a bit erratic, as sometimes when we arrived back after lunch it still hadn't been done and other times it was done as soon as we left in the morning. Resupplies to the room by housekeeping was also inconsistent, sometimes we had hand towels and bathmats replaced other times we were left without. Same with tissues and water bottles. The rear car parking area had CCTV cameras, so I was comfortable with the surveillance/security however if you got back later in the evening there wasn't a lot of vacant bays, and we were there when the hotel was relatively quiet - I could imagine parking would be at a premium when it is busy. You do get a fair bit of noise in the morning from the trucks offloading liquor to the bottle shop (reversing beepers/crashing of bottles etc) The laundry and the gym area were really hammered and had obviously see better days - though the gym did have clean towels and fresh water bottles, when I could access it. There is only one washing machine and one clothes dryer - so you need to closely watch when other people's loads finish as otherwise you could be up half the night doing your laundry. In summary don't hold any high expectations about the Gateway Hotel, it is what it describes itself as - a centrally located 3 star hotel.
Hotel was nice. Beware the car parking though. We booked direct, upon checkin we were given the option of valet parking onsite for $25 or $10 in a council car park 100m up the road. We chose the council car park and had nothing but trouble getting in or out! A big shout out to Stephanie (FOM) for her help but from someone who previously worked in hospitality for 20+ years our $10 charge should have been waived. Dinner in the restaurant was ok, took forever for meals to arrive and they didn’t come in the order requested. Breakfast ok but not much choice.
I had a very enjoyable stay at the Formby Hotel in Devonport. The staff were welcoming and friendly and happy to help with things like carrying my luggage up the stairs. The room was light, clean and comfortable. The bed was comfortable and the en suite was bright and lovely with plenty of hot water. The room had a great view of the river and the Spirit of Tasmania. Downstairs there is a nice restaurant and Pokies venue and the hotel is close to shops and not far by car to supermarkets. There was off street parking in the yard behind the hotel next to a bottle shop. I highly recommend the Formby Hotel and look forward to staying there again.

GGuest UserI love staying here – it really is a home away from home. Bev and Martin are wonderful hosts, the breakfasts are divine, and the a**osphere is charming and comfortable, with lovely complimentary extras like home-baked cookies and port in the evenings. We loved heading off on the walking paths to see the beautiful Hawley and Shearwater beaches, and the wooden fishing boats at Port Sorell – for keen photographers, there are photo opportunities everywhere!
GGuest UserMy partner and i stayed here only a few days ago in a king studio apartment and it was absolutely fantastic .It would be one of the best rooms we have ever stayed in .Lovely furnishings and super comfy bed all very new.We had a deck out front with outdoor setting overlooking the river even did a spot of fishing while sitting back having a beer or two .It was so peaceful here we just loved it .The whole apartment was very roomy the bathroom huge. There is also a cafe onsite which serves breakfast and lunch although we used the apartment facilities to cook our own food ,Did get a coffee and cake though which was good .Would highly recommend staying here it was supurb
GGuest UserWe had the pleasure of staying at Glencoe for three nights and we had a wonderful time. We had the blue room and the bed was super comfy and the room was overall very quiet. Even with other guests staying we didn't hear a thing. The room is well appointed with a fridge, tea and coffee maker and a bluetooth speaker as well as all the other expected amenities. The bathroom is a little on the small side but the room is otherwise very spacious and comfortable. Irene and Russ are the most gracious hosts. It was a pleasure to meet them and hear about life on the working farm. Russ was even gracious enough to give us tips of places to eat and the best routes to take as we explored the area which we really appreciated. It's always nice to meet a fellow foodie and we had one of our best days in the area due to his advice. Irene is a genuinely kind soul and we loved how much she loves her animals. Breakfast each morning was genuinely brilliant. We don't usually get breakfast where we're staying as we like to explore local restaurants but we had breakfast each morning at Glencoe because it was so good. Freshly baked croissants, the most delicious mushrooms I've ever had and barista coffee. Add to that the pleasure of seeing chickens running around in the gardens it all just made for a lovely stay. If you are thinking about staying here I would encourage you to do so. It's a real gem!
GGuest UserThis property had broken glass on our pateo and in the paddocks. Our toddler cut its finger on the broken lounge room window. It was not safe for the kids, the old gym was dangerous and like a junkyard. The basketball court was covered in slime. The horse was lame and needed some serious hoof filing, it could not even stand on one leg. The lights inside were so dim we could barely see. The sofas were covered in decades worth of grime. The dining chairs were broken and unsafe. We were not provided with a cloth for washing up, only a scourer. All the knives were completely blunt. We left our three night stay early and felt better for it. Other than this accommodation - we had a wonderful stay in Tasmania.
