Really lovely chilled place. In all honesty there’s not a massive amount to do there (compared to other reserves) except relax & enjoy the food - albeit there are a few walks around the estate to do & couple of drives per day - but it was perfect for us. The food was generally very good & all the staff were not only very pleasant but also very helpful. It’s an old farm with a number of separate properties around the old main house & set around a large pond (so water birds & hundreds of dragonflies) close to a river through a valley. We saw zebra, Eland, Oryx & Red Hartebeest on the game drives (other guests also saw Baboons & Tortoises while we were there), so it’s not somewhere you’ll get the BigGame experience but it was still good. There were things on offer like mountain biking, canoeing & fishing, but to be honest we were too busy relaxing to try them. We stayed 3 nights in the Riverside room, which has a private pool & we had zebras outside at midnight & Red Hartebeest first thing in the morning eating the grass. However, it was the most chilled & relaxing place we’ve been to for a long time & it’s hard not to think we’ll go again next time we are in SA. Faults: nothing I can think of & anything you ask for arrives immediately.

There is a great sense of serenity and quiet luxury. But this is perhaps not the right place for thrill seekers such as you find in some of the "Big Five" game lodges. Nevertheless, the morning drives to visit rock art sites (each day a different one) and evening drives (you'll see some game if you are lucky) provide some moderate activity, which anyone can supplement with walks, cycling, etc. The decor is tasteful; food is great and varied; and the spa services are good. We experienced an unpleasant incident when our expensive binoculars dissapeared (most probably lifted by a hotel guest), but Red Carnation immediately and generously offered to reimburse us - that was impressive.

We had two wonderful days here. The setting is breathtaking with amazing views of mountain ranges and fynbos. You have a guide allocated to each set of guests l, and Abigail was knowledgeable and charming. Nothing was too much hassle. We looked at the cave art and saw many zebra , emus, deer etc in our safaris. The service was fabulous and the food excellent. We had drinks in the garden on the second night which was lovely. We stayed at Rivers Edge, and the two rooms were well appointed with comfortable beds, pillows, sheets etc. the bathroom was lovely with a bath as well as a shower. The rooms aren’t huge, but are lively, with great views over the lake. At night you see hartebeasts coming through the lodge, as well as baboons, and a few other animals. The bird life is fantastic. The lodge is run so well, with friendly management and fabulous staff. It is an area of great beauty and is very special. Well worth a visit. The swimming pools are a bit small, so doing proper lengths is tricky, which is a shame. But not enough to pit us off returning, and we’d recommend it to others

A truly outstanding place to stay. The historic buildings, facilities cuisine, astonishingly peaceful and dramatic location, customer service and wildlife all made for a memorable few days. We particularly liked the freedom to do as we wanted and valued the attention from the whole team at Bushman’s Kloof to make our stay so restorative.

We had a fantastic family stay at Bushmans Kloof Wilderness Reserve and Wellness Retreat. The accommodations, restaurant, and spa were all exceptional, complemented by a friendly and professional staff who made us feel at home from the start. While the reserve doesn't feature the Big Five, it offers a rich variety of wildlife, stunning plants, and fascinating rock art. Our guide, Byron, impressed us with his extensive knowledge of the local flora and rock art, enhancing our experience significantly. This retreat is a true gem for nature lovers seeking tranquility and beauty.

From the moment we arrived at Bushman’s Kloof, it was clear that this wasn’t just a venue—it was an experience. The team went above and beyond to make us feel welcomed, cherished, and truly valued. Every detail, from the warm and friendly staff to the impeccable food, wine (shoutout to the amazing sommelier), beautiful rooms and awesome Koro lodge, was thoughtfully executed. The wedding itself was nothing short of magical. The tailor-made setup was breathtaking, and the way the team orchestrated every detail was simply unforgettable. It felt like every moment was curated just for us, and the result exceeded all our expectations—an easy 15/10! If you’re considering Bushman’s Kloof for your wedding or a special event, don’t hesitate—it’s their best-kept secret! A must-visit destination!

We booked a 2 night midweek stay to experience what this resort and area have to offer and we were certainly not disappointed. From the moment we arrived we were totally spoiled. From high tea on arrival, wonderful dinner the first night. Great breakfast, fantastic drive with the best guide having amazing knowledge of the fauna, flora and the San Rock Art. Return to the lodge for continuation of breakfast, canoeing on the dam, a wonderful picnic all alone on the side of the dam under the shade of the trees, back to the lodge to relax and digest (couldnt make the high tea), and then again a bespoke dinner by the fire with the most wonderful wine selection. The next morning the breakfast was once again amazing and then due to rain we just relaxed, visited the heritage centre and then made our way back home. What an experience!

This is a great place to get away from life’s hustle and bustle. The food is outstanding. Morning drives/tricks to see rock art over 4000 years old was really interesting and educational covering the ways of the Sand people. Mountain biking round the extensive property was really great for impromptu wild life spotting. The Spa is ultra relaxing in the treatment annex with a view. I would highly recommend the private dining option in the old bushman’s hut with 100 candles (see photo). A big shout out to Abigail who was our very knowledgeable guide and covered the rock art, flora and animals/birds keeping the interest up. This is not a big 5 lodge but we really enjoyed it and will definitely be returning when time allows.
