Samhil Motor Lodge

I popped into make a 3 day reservation with the folks at Samhil over the weekend. The person on duty at reception thought maybe they had a spot for the 3 days over the following weekend but need to check that the person had or was going to cancel and that if I left my number he would call two days later on the Monday. Now it was a pretty busy weekend so I was happy to wait and my sister who the booking was for could hold off travel plans a few days. Now I decided to call in on the way home from work Monday( I live next-door to this establishment) as I had not heard anything yet. There was a women on the desk this time, she later identified herself as the owner/manager. She didn't know about the booking so got her partner who was the person I first spoke to, after some back and forth about the dates he said yes I have a room, I did confirm he had a room and ask how I could confirm the booking and his reply was payment in full. I was more than happy to pay up front for all 3 day, though most places do take just the first night to secure, but it was a busy weekend and I want to nail down the booking, so I had my sister call and pay in full. After she had secured the booking, she went ahead with finalizing her travel plans. Today one day after we made full payment and had made all the travel pans and bookings I received a call from the gentleman that made the reservation to say he was cancelling it, I tried to make him aware that he had taken full payment and said we had a booking and that we had made travel plans and other booking. He was very rude on the call and ended up yelling at me, the own/manager took the phone off him and just said it is happening, your booking is cancelled, come and get cash back or we will send to a bank account, you never had a confirmed booking and ended the call. We have now supplied our accounts and await a refund, I talked to my sister and she said she was never told the booking was not confirmed, as I was never. Now it maybe a nice-ish place to stay but we will never know as we will not be returning. We have since booked at a competitor across the road who just required 1st night payment to secure confirmation. Sorry but these folks have some questionable reservation methods and also I'm sorry but you don't scream at guest over the phone.
