Our family recently stayed at Mountwell Chongqing (Jiefangbei) and overall, we had a wonderful experience. The location is fantastic – right in the heart of Jiefangbei, making it super convenient for shopping and dining. The panoramic suite offered breathtaking views, and the room was spacious, clean, and well-appointed, perfect for families.
The front desk was exceptionally helpful, always ready to assist with a smile. Special shoutout to 金金, 紫涵, 二娃, 小林, and 慧子 (Guest Manager) for their professionalism and genuine care—they went above and beyond to ensure our comfort. The lobby’s well-stocked snacks and drinks were a lovely touch, showing their attention to guest needs.
That said, we did encounter a few issues:
Sewage smell in the toilet (room 2902) – Unfortunately, the master bathroom had a persistent sewage odour that permeated into the master bed room despite having the bathroom door closed. We raised the complaint to the front desk but had the misfortune of encountering an employee Mr. Yang who was not only rude but dismissive and condescending when speaking to us. He accused us of being oversensitive and even insinuated we were exaggerating the stench to get a discount. He arranged for the cleaners to fix it. And by fix, i mean opened the window and sprayed some deodorant. We said that was merely a temporary solution and the stench will return. He begrudgingly moved us to another room (room 3702) and said the stench is gone (it is not) and he would “behead” himself if it returns (he did not). The odour though still present was much more tolerable. We visited the front desk again to feedback on the odour situation and on Mr. Yang. The front desk apologised profusely on behalf of Mr. Yang and assured us we would not have to interact with Mr. Yang again.
Aircon issue – On our first night in 3702, the AC shut off automatically due to a floor-wide problem, but it was fixed the next day.
Washing machine issue – after moving to 3702, the washing machine broke. We called the front desk and they promptly arranged for a replacement. Unfortunately, the brand new replacement washing machine leaked after the first wash. We informed the staff and they offered to complete the wash and dry our laundry for us while we leave for our day so as to not affect our itinerary. It was unfortunate but we thought they handled the situation well.
Why still 5 stars?
Because every hotel have flaws—what matters is how they’re handled. Aside from that one rude staff, (the team especially the staff we praised) turned potential frustrations into minor footnotes. Their sincerity and efficiency in problem-solving reflect true hospitality, and we’d gladly return.
