Avoid at all costs, this is not a fit place to stay, unless you like filthy toilets and mouldy bathrooms, filthy broken windows, stained carpets and stained lamp shades. The booking confirmation advised us of their enhanced cleaning and hygiene standards, I'd hate to see it before the enhancement. We left after 10 minutes, which we spent taking photos for our complaint.

This was the worst place I have ever stayed in my life. The cleaning must have been non existent for many years, ceiling falling in in the shower, very out of date electrical testing (years out) and walls paper thin (can hear any conversations from next room). When I cancelled a second stay (already booked) for the above reasons, no refund or even a response to emails. I understand this is a budget property, but there are still standards that should be met.

Avoid at all costs! Yes it’s cheap but it certainly isn’t cheerful (apart from the man on reception - he was very polite and welcoming). On arrival, the exterior impression was very poor. Extremely run down and dirty looking. Car park isn’t accessible unless you drive a motorbike. I felt very uneasy parking my car on the street as the area around looked very rundown and unsafe - house opposite looks like a boarded up drug den. We were shown to our room and instant impression was awful- the window had a huge crack, there were flies everywhere and dirt and grime all over the sink. The paint was peeling off the walls and the whole place just had a dirty feel. The welcome folder was all torn - a new ring binder would only cost a £1. The tea tray was broken. We spent 5 minutes in the room booking a new hotel. We left in under 10 minutes. Nobody was on reception when we went down stairs so we left our key and got out of there as quickly as possible. This place should not be open for business

You get exactly what you pay for. It’s cheap and cheerful, clean bedding and towels. The building itself is a little tired but it is cheap accommodation so cannot complain. Really friendly and helpful staff and a good cooked breakfast in the morning.

Cheap accommodation in comparison to other local accommodation. The guy on reception was friendly and helpful. The bedding was clean and fresh and the bed very comfy.....however....the whole place was VERY tired looking and in need of at thourough deep clean, update and many repairs throughout. Parking may be an issue for some. Walking distance to town centre.

Absolutely awful place! We booked 3 rooms here, and all 3 were disgusting and vile. The entire building from top to bottom was dirty and grubby, and the place looked like it had never been cleaned! There was limescale and dirt all around the taps and toilet and inside the kettle, the seals were hanging off the shower, there were stains all over the walls, the bedding and the carpets, and 2/3 of our bedroom windows had been smashed. The place was so run down and not at all fit for purpose. I have previously worked in a hostel with homeless adults most of whom were drug users, and the state of The Pines makes the hostel where I previously worked look like the Ritz. We were really disappointed and would not return to The Pines under any circumstances. I was shocked when I mentioned how dirty the rooms were to a member of staff who said "unfortunately there is nothing we can do about that". This gave me the impression that the staff don't even care about their business or reputation. They also claim there is a carpark to the rear of the property, however there is no way anything wider than a mobility scooter would fit past the building to access the "car park". This place was filthy and I don't know how they are allowed to stay open. I wouldn't even give this place 1 star. Best part of this stay was getting home and having a shower to scrub The Pines off me. God knows what we've caught after spending a night here. Avoid this place at all costs!

Nice strong shower, comfy bed, friendly staff and great breakfast. The hotel is tired and good do with a refurb plus the room was a bit too warm during the night but overall great place for an overnight stay

We quickly left even though we had paid upfront. It was so dismal and depressing. From the outside it looked more like a halfway house than a bed and breakfast and inside was no better. I would preferred to have slept in the car than stayed there.

Does what it says on the tin really. The hotel knows what it is, a basic hotel near the centre of town. The guy at reception was very nice and welcoming. Took a few minutes to find my room key but to be fair, I think he was busy elsewhere and likely on his own there. Room was decent and clean. The bed was comfortable. My only complaint if any at all was that the TV was quite comical for the year 2022, if you want to watch TV from the bed then bring your binoculars!!
