Hotel the Royal Shalimar
3.7/543 Reviews
Stayed at hotel the royal shalimar for three nights and had a mixed experience. The first room we were given lacked basic amenities like a towel rack, and had an unpleasant odor. Despite requesting an additional towel for our party of three, the staff seemed hesitant to accommodate us. However, upon shifting to another room the next day, our experience improved significantly. The new room was spacious, clean, and pleasant. The hotel's dinner options were disappointing, and the lack of nearby restaurants made dining out inconvenient. However, the complimentary breakfast provided some relief. The breakfast spread included idli, sambar, chutney, poori masala, vada, and a small serving of papaya and musk melon. Although there were no egg dishes or other options, the breakfast was satisfactory. Unfortunately, the quality of the breakfast declined on the second day, with limited choices and no fruits available. On a positive note, the hotel offered ample open parking space, and the bed was comfortable for a good night's sleep. The staff, despite initial hesitance with our requests, proved helpful for the remainder of our stay. Overall, hotel the royal shalimar has potential but needs improvement in certain areas such as room maintenance and dining options.

We had a very horrible experience at this hotel. The hotel is old and dirty. The pictures given over here are doctored and do not believe them. We found large piles of unwashed bedsheets, pillows covers, towels in the corridors giving a stink from the days it has been piled up. There was piled up garbage like used plates, balloons, paper decors etc from a previous party all on the corridor to the room. There was garbage everywhere in the corridors. Worse was the room. The walls were dirty. The room smelt bad. Horrible was the bed linen. They were dirty with large stain marks everywhere. They were clearly not been washed for some time now. It was apparent that the hotel does not wash its linen. They give their guests used bed linen from other guests. The pillows were not clean and there was hair everywhere on the pillows from the previous guests. The towels were not very clean as well. I came to know from a staff that the hotel is mostly understaffed and housekeeping is done by just one or two persons. He also told me that the owner has not changed bed linen for a long time now and just managing with old linen. We checked in during the late evening. The front office guy was unprofessional and he made us wait for 30 minutes to hand over the room key saying that there was no staff to help us get to our rooms. I am totally surprised to see some of the good reviews of this hotel in TripAdvisor-I was fooled by them to book this hotel. Clearly, these reviews are fake or have been done by friends and family. I am also very surprised that TripAdvisor carries this hotel amongst its recommendations for Chikmagalur- I am increasingly getting sceptical of Tripadvisor ratings and recommendations and will not follow them in future. Strongly urge Tripadvisor not to recommend this hotel in their list of hotels.

A wonderful place to relax. Had great time enjoying in the resort. Everyone in the resort was so humble and they welcomed us with open arms. But food is very expensive. Overall super.

We chose this place looking at the wide range of reviews, and to be honest we were sceptical in the beginning. However, when we reached, the very first reaction was 'wow'. The staff are extremely courteous, the resort is beautifully maintained, the food served is delicious and the scenic beauty around is to die for. One can actually see the clouds floating from this resort. I infact wanted to extend my stay but my leaves were over and i had to come back. If you are planning to visit , ensure you attend the campfire. It's such a beautiful set up. The cherry on the cake was it was drizzling while we were there , so the heat of the campfire was extremely cozy. Special mention to Mr. Dayanand and Mr.Umesh! They are so humble , generous and above everything they seemed so warm and welcoming. Thank you Dayanand and Umesh for making us feel at home ❤️
