This hotel charged me a fraudulent $500 "smoking fee" when I've never smoked in a hotel room in my life. Coming up on Lifetime Platinum status (10 years of 50+ nights/year with Marriott) without a single incident, and the staff at this hotel claims they have "evidence" of me smoking in the room. So, either they really have evidence and it's fabricated by a staff member and I am being scammed, or their "evidence" is something that isn't really evidence of smoking, which would mean the staff is incompetent. The latter theory is believable, given that no one was able to help route my call to someone with whom I can make my case and dispute the charge. I waited through several 5-minute call transfer holds, being told that I need to talk to the security department, or the head of the front desk staff, and each of these people told me they could not do anything. One of them finally gave me contact information for Marriott Corporate, after becoming cold/rude when mentioning their "evidence." I feel like I'm in a terrible drama, being wrongly accused like this with seemingly no recourse. I am not only being charged $500 for nothing, but my reputation with Marriott is possibly put in question. There doesn't seem to be recourse with the hotel so I am waiting on Marriott Corporate, as well as my credit card company, to respond about this.
