Mercure Chester Abbots Well Hotel

For the most part, this is a lovely hotel. It cost us around £7 for a taxi into Chester and the rooms are clean. The majority of staff are incredibly friendly. However, while out during the day our keys were deactivated to force us to the reception so that the manager could corner me about where my car was parked - which had been mentioned to another member of staff during check in and they had said it wasn't a problem. She had been trying to call me on the hotel room phone ”all day”, which is a ridiculous approach as who sits in their room all day? If she had just called me on my mobile number, which was used to book the room, I would have happily come back and moved the car. She demanded I move it in that moment and I explained that I'd had a drink but I'd move it in the morning. She then said she would move my car, which I wasn't comfortable with. She then walked away from me and wouldn't allow a rational, adult conversation. The tone and attitude were accusatory and her frustration clearly misdirected when she has made no realistic efforts to contact me; we were in the hotel until 11am and, as I said, I had my phone with me all day. I tried to explain to the reception staff why my car was where it was, and that I had discussed it on a rival and was dismissed with a ”well I wasn't there so I wouldn't know” then she smirked at another guest. It's such a shame that has really put a dampner on the stay for us, as it was totally unnecessary.

Brilliant hotel and location. Breakfast queue was the only thing which may have been an issue but we were there early so no problem. But could do with looking at how this is set up at busy times. Loved the whole visit.

We have had a lovely stay, and it would only take a few tweaks to make this hotel better. Good: *It's in the perfect location, we took an uber into the centre of Chester for less than £5. *Breakfast was relaxed with a great selection as a buffet service. *Spacious room with all the amenities you need. *Plenty of free parking. *Beautiful grounds and really quiet at night. *Great value for money Needs Improving: *Cleaning standard is average, black mold around the taps in the bathroom that could be easily resolved. *Bathroom floor was desperate for a good mop *Bed wasn't the comfiest as 2 twins fastened together leaving a gap in the middle. *Staffing levels affecting customer service levels, we decided to order room service, took an age to answer the phone and then said could be collected from reception, kind of goes against the point of room service, so we left it, not great for the hotels add on sales if that happens everytime. *No enough bar staff, we ordered food but it was cold and one meal was not what we ordered but too hungry to wait for it to be replaced, apparently fish finger sandwich is identical to fish and chips anyway according to the waitress! Like I said it won't take much for this hotel to raise it's customer service standards to an excellent level, more staff will fix most of the issues, despite everything mentioned we would probably stay again.

Please pay attention to the reviews that say this hotel is in need of refurbishment. The rooms are old, outdated and shabby. It started at check in when we were told that the room we were assigned was not available because the guests refused to check out. We were asked to return a few hours later while it was “sorted.” It was a bit confusing because everyone before us and after us was checked in and given room keys. At any rate, we returned as requested and they re-assigned our room. By that, I believe they just out us in the room that was left over and is only assigned as a last resort. It’s at the end of a long hallway, adjacent (and I mean within inches) of 2 other room’s doors. To say you can hear everything is an understatement. Due to the rooms position in the hotel, it is a dungeon. One small window in the corner of the room so there is no natural light. We had problems every single day we were there. Key cards had to be reset every day, stained bath towel, bathtub faucet would not turn off (maintenance gentleman said he had been to the room several times for the same issue. The staff seemed nice at first, but just began to shrug us off with the issues. The manager did not offer to switch our room and simply said he would see about a reduced rate and “would get back with us.” I’m not counting on any concessions. The location is good, but think twice before staying here.

The staff were excellent, friendly and provided perfect service. Breakfast was good, options of cereal, full cooked and toast. The hotel is just outside of Chester but only 5 mins drive by car. The room was warm and comfortable.

Great hotel 👍 Antique, it really matches the style of Chester, a city under cultural heritage protection that dates back to the ancient Roman era! The room and bathroom are quite large, spacious and comfortable. The restaurant and bar on the ground floor can provide breakfast, lunch and dinner, which is very convenient. The steaks are grilled well👍Speaking of convenience, it is right opposite the train station😄👍You don’t have to cross the road, you can get there in just one minute through the parking lot, which is great! Our stay was actually a one-day stay. We returned from Liverpool in the afternoon and transferred in Chester. Who would have thought that the subsequent train was canceled because the water washed out the train embankment! So I quickly looked for a hotel on Ctrip. It looked close, so I thought it would only be one night and then leave. Unexpectedly, I found a treasure 😂 I also like Ctrip’s service 👍 Booking a hotel temporarily was so fast 👍 Thanks to Tianliuke, we also discovered the treasure city of Chester, and the hotel has thoughtful luggage storage services, so we We had fun in Chester until three o'clock in the afternoon. We had a nice meal and a drink in a small Italian restaurant. We then returned to the hotel, picked up our luggage, and then entered the train station and headed home. The whole trip was an episode, but everything went smoothly, so I plan to come to Chester for vacation in the summer and stay at the Queen Hotel! You should take a stroll in its beautiful garden😄Oh, friends who like history should be very interested in the decoration and layout of the hotel! Recommended!
