Hotel Chantereyne

Excellent location near the centre of Cherbourg, close to the port and ferry terminal. Room had tea and coffee making facilities, large comfortable bed, great shower. Breakfast was included in our deal and of good quality. Staff were professional and friendly. Free car parking available. Lots of bars, shops and restaurants within easy walking distance. Will definitely be staying there on subsequent visits.

We stayed here for one night in May after getting off the Poole-Cherbourg ferry. It is a short taxi ride from the ferry-port. It is a light, modern, comfortable hotel, not far from the sea-front. It is a 10-minute walk into town. We slept very well. And enjoyed the buffet breakfast

A great location with excellent car-parking and convenient for ferry port and restaurants. Modestly priced rooms. Decent sized rooms with good access for disabled. The nearest bar/restaurant is about 60 yards away and surprisingly great value for money. The hotel is a typical French commercial hotel, not flashy but spacious rooms and immaculately clean. You can book breakfast in advance.

Perfect small hotel ideal for exploring cherbourg. We had foot passenger ferry tickets and walked to hotel from terminus, not for the unfit but perfectly doable. Friendly staff, clean room, good shower and accomodating reception team. We will definitely be back.

We stopped here overnight before our ferry back to the UK and were very pleasantly surprised. Staff were really friendly and we parked our motorcycles in a secure location in the hotel grounds. Had a very clean triple room with all the facilities we'd need. Easy walk into the centre of Cherbourg and a short ride to the ferry terminal. Good breakfast! Couldn't really find fault!

We stayed in one of the larger family rooms with our baby. The room was a bit tired but worked well for us - free parking, free cot, lots of space for crawling around, a bath, a decent buffet breakfast (€10, free for baby) with a high chair. It was also easy to make the room dark enough in the evening. We would stay again before/after the ferry (although not to visit Cherbourg which was a bit lacking!)

The hotel is by a marina and car park. On entering the hotel we noticed that the reception area and bar area with breakfast area looked like it had recently been refurbished and gave a good first impression of the hotel, but on leaving reception to find our room on first floor the decoration changed and needs to be updated. First room we were allocated was 134 and the bed had seen better days. The base was worn and the mattress sagging in the middle. Second room 128 was better, but the room itself was tired and needs an update ( we think the bathroom and toilet had been refurbished) they was only one window that opened and it wouldn’t lock open. Only two teabags and two milks on the hospitality tray and some coffee sachets. Not great for two people. We were only supplied with one bottle of water too. Storage area for our cases and clothes was shabby and carpet seen better days. The view was ok. Breakfast was laid out and help yourself, but a small area so crowded when you were making drinks or getting food. Reception were helpful and friendly. We probably wouldn’t return to this hotel unless the rooms were updated. Disappointed. We did enjoy our visit to Cherbourg though

We used to visit the Chantereyne regularly some years ago and returned to participate in the Rolex Fastnet race celebrations. The location is excellent - close to the basin where most of the boats were moored and the race village was located. Since we last visit the hotel has been substantially upgraded. Our room was quite delightful with an excellent shower, very comfortable beds and good quality furnishings. Very peaceful too despite the bustle outside. The only questionable bit of the refurbishment was the floor on the shower and bathroom which had pebbles embedded in it. It looked great but was a bit hard when barefoot. Booking was very easy and on arrival the reception was excellent. Although the area was full of cars because of the regatta we found an excellent free parking spot just behind the hotel. The continental breakfast was very good with plenty of fresh fruit and cereals as well as the normal croissants, pains chocolat and bread rolls. Good coffee. We had a number of minor bits of paperwork to sort out and the hotel scanned and emailed a number of documents for us - all done with a smile and free of charge.. I was really impressed. All the management seemed interested in their customers, took time to chat and made us feel really welcome. Excellent stay. If in Cherbourg we will be back.
