I booked this hotel to compare with temple house and I would definitely recommend temple house over diaoyutai. Despite the no smoking sign there was a distinct smell of cigarette smoke in the room. The room setup doesn't make much sense with the walk in closet at the opposite end of the bed and bathroom. The bed is quite comfy so that's a plus. A lot of the channels on the tv didn't work which was weird because they worked at all the other hotels I stayed at in Chengdu. The original room they gave me was on a higher floor but looked right into the residential building next door so I wouldn't be able to open the curtains hence I requested a room change. The new one was better location wise but the windows were really dirty as if they'd never been wiped. Location is good if you want to explore xuanzhai alley but beware there are A LOT of tourists. Soundproofing is good and you can get a good night's sleep despite the ruckus outside.

It is said that there were originally more than 50 rooms in Kuanxiangzi, but none of them are open now. Therefore, the renovation of the old house and the height limit of only 3 floors make it difficult for the hotel to play its own advantages. The design of the public area is extremely simple, with a few bird cages and green tile buildings, which looks very cramped. The corridor-type structure also causes at least 4 rooms to face the corridor. Fortunately, the room is still spacious and bright, especially the three-story landscape room, where you can see the alleys and the blue sky with people coming and going, and you feel very leisurely in the downtown area. However, the hygiene is still very good. The bedding is very comfortable. The service quality is also online, standard C6 level, a little lacking in enthusiasm, after all, it may be a bit tired after more than 10 years of operation. In short, as an old hotel that has been open for more than 10 years, it is not easy to ensure the quality while the facilities are aging.

The hotel room facilities are average. The mattress and pillows are extremely uncomfortable. I didn't sleep well all night. Since it faces the street, it was very noisy starting at 6 o'clock in the morning. The price of more than 2,000 a night is not as comfortable as a hotel with more than 200. The breakfast has very few types. Basically it’s better than nothing! A hotel I will never stay in again! Very poor value for money and uncomfortable!
