We recently stayed at Mercure Chengdu Chunxi Taikoo Li for 5 nights. Unfortunately, our experience was overwhelmingly disappointing, with one notable exception.
# Positive Experience
小孩小马 (Xiao Ma) provided top-notch service! He was friendly, attentive, and went above and beyond to ensure our comfort. He even self-delivered food to our room during peak hours and offered valuable local recommendations via WeChat.
# Negative Experiences
1. No Air Conditioning at Night
The hotel air conditioning system switches to heating mode from 8 pm onwards during winter. Our room had no cooling option, only heating. When we complained about the heat, the front desk offered to provide a fan. The hotel explained:
“ 酦店的空调是中央空调,这段时间晚上八点后空调主机开的都是取暖模式,之前有开过一段时间的冷风,但是酒店住得老人和小朋友比较多,成都晚上还是比较冷的,就有些小朋友都感冒了,所以这段时间才开启了取暖模式。房间内温度高的话,可能只能麻烦您把空调先关闭,这样后半夜天气温度降低了,房间内温度就差不多合适。
2. Confusing Experience with Staff X
The front desk mention they will send someone up with a fan, but Staff X arrived , he brings up 2 cups of Haagen-Dazs ice cream and claimed that we asked for a "加湿器" but he holding Haagen-Dazs and not "加湿器" .
So i told him what we needed actually is a fan and i even told him the corridor aircon also much stronger than the room. The room is really super hot.
And what he suggests to us is opening our room door widely to let corridor air come in. HORRIBLE!
3. Faulty Access Card
Our access card stopped working on the 3rd day. I unable to tap in to our room so we call the front desk , they took more than 5 minutes to come up.
The hotel staff verified my identity and after verification he use his master card to opened the door, and no explanation on what cause this issue.
Worst is he never brings working card up.
So i ask him what cause this issue and he mentioned that the chip inside the card is faulty and is normal that this happen because when card put together with handphone, it will cause this issue.
But my card put inside bag and handphone always put inside my pants pocket. So how does the card not working?
Another strange thing is the card know which level i going to but how come only room door cannot be access?
4. Laundry Room Issues
Dryer 3 was faulty. I call the front-desk and Staff X said that there is a possibility not yet fully fixed and will contact technician to fixed it next morning.
So Staff X know i waiting for dryer, he said that dryer 4 is available and their clothes are dry, ask me to put their clothes into laundry bag and put it aside.
To me is i thought he work service line, not he help to assist and put it inside the bag?
After two days later, the dryer 3 can start but clothes cannot be dry. Really is waste of time waiting, end up the clothes not dry after 2 hr of drying and only with few clothing.
So the technician only just ensure that the machine can start and not do a fully detail check?
5. Uncomfortable Bed
The bed caused skin irritation and discomfort.
# Disappointing Experience
Xiao Ma's service was a highlight, but the hotel's shortcomings cannot be overlooked. We encourage management to address these issues to provide a better experience for future guests.
# Suggestions for Improvement
1. Improve air conditioning and heating systems
2. Enhance staff communication and problem-solving skills
3. Replace faulty access cards and laundry machines
4. Upgrade bed quality
