I stayed here as part of a smaller wedding party, the staff were incredibly attentive and could not do enough to help, especially Lewis who they should be really proud of. We had dinner in one of the domes which was a lovely experience and the food was superb, the steak was huge and perfectly cooked and the maple creme brulee is something I wish i could eat every day ! The rooms were lovely and the beds extremely comfortable. The breakfast was fresh and consistently refreshed rather than just leaving a bulk amount of food out to go soggy so that was a lovely way to start the journey home, highly recommend and will be back to eat at the restaurant another time.

Honestly favourite travelodge across the country. Paul is a credit to the company. All staff extremely friendly and welcoming, rooms clean, all amenities working and the food is also on point. Will happily travel the extra 20 miles when in Essex to stay at this hotel.

We spent the night here and were very impressed with the marquee and had a great time at the party . The family room we stayed in was clean tidy and comfortable. We then all had breakfast and the staff was very attentive and helpful especially for my daughter needs as she’s gluten free , so we decided to stay on for lunch which was also very nice . I would highly recommend

Great size room. Advertised as 4star….don’t know in what year that would be…more a 2star! Window cill & wall in bedroom really rotten, dated furniture, all a bit scruffy, had to keep window open as room a bit smelly but then was really noisy through the night with lorry deliveries, extracter fan in bathroom not working so really steamy, cracks in tiles where shower is, rotten door frame in bathroom too. Didn’t complain at time as only staying 2 nights just to sleep - sheets etc nice & clean but pillows not comfortable, old & sunken. Wouldn’t stay again.

Such a great venue to get married. So helpful and ridiculously hard working all day. Annette was going all day and night to make the day run smoothly. She was a fantastic help throughout the process from looking around the venue in the first instance, to giving us our key in the wonderful Catherine of Aragon suite at 1am (when we were the last people standing - none of our family checking us in!) Our toastmaster Steve (included in the package) was a godsend. He organised everything on the day and we met up with him beforehand which gave us lots of peace of mind. So much character in the Samuel Pepsys Room and Henry VIII Suite. Gardens were so beautiful and in keeping with what we wanted. The food was just perfectly sized, there was soooo much in the evening buffet we could have had double the number of guests. Marygreen accommodated our choice to have a singer of our choosing alongside the package DJ so well. Paco in the bar was tireless, changing barrels frequently and keeping the drinks flowing all night. Top tip: if you need a photographer, use Ali's photography!

This is 5/5 judged on the experience, not that it’s a 5* hotel. I had the pleasure of staying two nights as I was in the area for a wedding. Easy parking, friendly staff on all the shifts, polite, helpful and engaging. The sheets were clean and the room enormous, sure the bathroom could be updated but so what it worked. I had breakfast on one morning which was plentiful. The cooked elements were not the best quality but look at the price and be grateful. Back to the staff …. Clearly naturally nice people, thank you.

We recently enjoyed a delightful afternoon tea with family at Down Hall, and it was a wonderful experience from start to finish. The building itself is stunning, with beautiful historic architecture and a grand atmosphere that sets the perfect mood for a special afternoon. Our experience was truly enhanced by Jane, who looked after us so well. She was attentive, friendly, and made sure we had everything we needed to enjoy our time together. It’s rare to find such genuine care and attention in service, and Jane truly went above and beyond. From the delicious treats to the elegant setting, every detail made for a memorable afternoon. We hadn't planned to stay here but I had booked us in at the Stansted Holiday Inn Express on the wrong night so Chrissy at Stansted kindly found us a room for the night at Braintree as we had a early flight the next day. The staff on check in who also cooked and served our food and drink were absolutely brilliant. This hotel seems to have been left behind a bit with any refit as it is very tired and dated however the amazing staff made up for it hence the 4 stars. We'd tried the Toby carvery but they weren't taking walkins probably due to being so busy so we headed back to the hotel to see what they could rustle up for us. Although the menu was extremely limited as quite a lot of items were unavailable (not sure why?) We had spicy wings and soup to start so tasty and wonderfully presented. Followed by a shared toastie and then 2 fab puddings. Full bellies and v.happy thankyou. We were up and about before breakfast but the chap said he would happily let us have a take away coffee and any cold items to take with us as they were complimentary anyway. Overall a good stay.

JjanetcoppThe Muder Mystery Night with Miss Janet Mapletree and supporting cast was absolutely superb. We got together a table of eight family and friends who all enjoyed the evening tremendously. The marquee at Pontlands Park was beautifully decorated, even had candles alight in the chandelier to create the perfect atmosphere. The three course meal commencing with a Crayfish salad was brilliant, the chicken in a celeriac sauce was delicious and the trio of desserts perfect. All washed down with excellent wines. Thanks Pontlands for a superb evening. We will all be back.

I booked to stay here as I was going to the theatre and this is really close to there and the train station. The lady who checked us in said they're renovating which may explain the mound of rubbish we had to walk past to get up the outside stairs to access the rooms (you don't go through the pub to get to the rooms). Our room was nice (well stocked tea tray) and the bed really comfy and the shower was nice and powerful. There is a lot of stairs and to find the room was a bit of a maze (even though our room was above the bar), the hall smelt fusty and needs to have windows open in the daytime although I appreciate in winter that would make the place cold. I didn't like the fact that the outer door doesn't close automatically so anyone could walk into the building from the car park next to the pub, and it was also very noisy at night - its a busy road and also the other guests were loud and kept slamming doors and shouting on their phones in the corridor but that's not the pubs fault. I think for the price breakfast should be included.

BBatesReception staff very friendly and helpful. When I tried to check in the staff didn’t have my name but only my friends even though I was the one that paid for the room? Bar food was nice enough but quite expensive over £18 for 1 panini, 1 chips, soft drink & a tea! Room was clean and tidy and very quiet but unfortunately didn’t have the best sleep as bed was really uncomfortable, springs coming through the mattress and really lumpy hard pillows also which was a shame! Stayed there as music event was on at the Colchester Park and looked like it was the nearest hotel to it but walking there was a bit tricky as had to go across a main road and through a dodgy alleyway behind an industrial building which wasn’t signposted after the event had to walk the long way around through the town to get back to the hotel.
