The Read House Hotel

Read Hotel is a beautiful historic hotel. The lobby is classic and our Manor room was well appointed. We encountered two problems though. The front desk clerk was very short with us at checkin and seemed annoyed to answer our questions about valet parking. But, most importantly, our room was so very noisy at night. The walls are paper thin and we heard every conversation in the neighboring room. Also, the doors in our hallway closed with a loud bang every time a guest closed their door. It was one of the worst nights of sleep we have ever encountered in a hotel. At checkout the clerk did not greet us except to ask if we wanted our receipt printed or emailed. No “How was your stay?” was asked. We chose not to complain to her at checkout as she didn’t seemed concerned about us as guests.

Very lovely old, old hotel in downtown Chattanooga. We had dinner at the hotel restaurant and both the food as well as service were excellent!

It's a very nuce hotel, super clean, good location, close to many restaurants. And the staff here are super friendly too. I definitely will come back.❤️

Was a great stay. Cool atmosphere and friendly staff. We did have some fruit flies in our room which were a little annoying. But aside from that it was a fantastic hotel.

Great classic hotel. Waiter in steakhouse was rude and ill-trained to be in a high end restaurant where service to the client should be a premium.

When we called at noon to see if we could get early check-in they said they had 1 room ready but the other one was being cleaned and would be ready in about 45 minutes. They said we would both be on the 6th floor but different hallways. We took everything to the 1 room. 45 minutes later, it still wasn’t ready. We went to lunch and came back after 3:00. Room still wasn’t ready. We had to get ready to go out for the evening. They said they had a room on the 4th floor. We had all of our stuff in the other room and we didn’t want to transfer to another floor. The clerk got the Supervisor who told us there were issues in our room that they had just finished taking care of them and were getting ready to clean it. My question was what happened to the room on the same floor but a different hallway. She said they had a handicapped room on the 6th floor. We said we would take it. When we walked past the room being cleaned, it had an odor. The handicapped room had issues with the blinds not closing. Maintenance came and said we would have to move to another room. We finally got them to close a little and decided we would stay. I didn’t want to move to the stinky room. The water pressure was low and not very warm. The pool was cold. The staff were all very kind and helpful except for giving away the originally promised room. The room was clean but too many issues for the cost.

The hotel staff is very friendly and professional. The rooms are nicely furnished, the beds are comfortable. The windows could use some cleaning and there were virutally no amenities in the rooms aside from soap and shampoo. All in all, it was a very pleasant experience, none the less and, if again in Chattanooga, we would chose the Read House again.

The room was excellent and the staff was always checking to make sure I didn’t need anything. I wasn’t use to that kind of friendly service. Most place are like that in the beginning but good luck trying to get something or even find someone to help you after check in. Very satisfied with stay!
