Comfort Suites University - Research Park

I was in Charlotte with the PGA Championship and had stayed with Comfort Suites in the past. From the location, to people hanging out at all hours of the day and night in the lobby and outside the front door to my room being dirty, stained and in bad shape. (see photos).

Hallways did not smell great, frame around the bathroom mirror looked like it had been chewed on, unfriendly night staff, and the blankets s on both beds had holes with one having questionable stains. Breakfast was decent but everyone had messed up stomachs after.

It's not like in the pictures. First, there is no pool! Nope. It is a wreck and drained except for the green ick at the very bottom. Not even worthy of sitting outside anywhere. Evidently, the smoking area is at the front entrance. I have asthma and it was rough going in and out thru the front area. Without the pool, that back area is sad. There are people hanging out in the parking lot all evening. I guess there just wasn't much else to do out here in this area. I didn't see the usual Gold or Diamond Choice parking. If it's there, I drove around and didn't see it. The people at the desk were nice and I felt the room was clean. It just wasn't what the hotel's photos show you. Sorry.

We used this hotel due to a flight delay - it was comped by the airline and the only choice the airline gave us. We arrived late, around 11pm. We appreciated getting a room so late in the evening. The check-in lady was OK, she processed our online airline hotel-voucher even though she looked confused because it was not a printed voucher (which I assume is the traditional way of doing it). Our room was spacious. The furnishings were extremely worn and tired. The sofa was unusable and had a rip/tear down one of the cushions. The wooden desks looked clean but old and the bathroom was probably the worst part. Tiles were worn/old, the handheld shower was missing, the shower curtain rod looked like it was about to fall off the wall, metal in the general area was corroded and it was really just a lot of yucky things that all added up to it being an unpleasant experience. Bed was a 5/10, lumpy... we brought our own pillowcases thank goodness. The outlets we tried all worked, as did the lamps. The linens in the sad bathroom were actually nice. We did see the trash panda (raccoon) when we left the next morning. I wouldn't recommend this hotel but we did sleep for a few hours and got back to the airport.

Most of the staff here seems pretty checked out, but the young woman who works the desk in the evenings doesn’t care enough to stop playing on her phone when I talk to her. My fridge is not working at all. I asked them last night about it and her response was “all the fridges work”. Yeah except mine. It’s not that it’s not cold enough. It’s actually warmer in the fridge than it is in the room. She writes it down and says the maintenance man will check it when he comes in at 10:00am. I leave for work at 6:00am. When I came back and checked it, at 4:30pm, it was the same broken fridge. She says he looked at it maybe. Or he will look at it. She doesn’t know. I ask “so I guess just too bad?” , and she laughed at me and went back to her phone. What’s going on here?
